Music Thread

Can't find the old music thread, so here's another.

This bloke was a DJ in the NW back in the 80s and before that. He eventually became the resident soul DJ at the Hacienda. He packed in dissolution with Rave music but ten years ago he made a comeback. Now he's in demand all around the world.

This is the mix that reestablished his reputation.

Old school that mixes Soul, funk, electro, hiphop, indie and rock. Chic, Mondays, Roses, Clash, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Hunan League, are in there amongst less well known but very good stuff.

Worth downloading for the car. It's rated as one of the best mixes on the web.

Sort of reminds me of a compressed party tape that was made in the late 70s-80s RD.

In his day he was a pioneer really. He uses reel to reel tapes instead of records, spending hours with a scalpel cutting up the music. This mix probably sounds compressed because he wanted to pack a lot in and chopped everything down to the best bits. Still works for me though.

Tapes were the only way back then especially when you had 50+ people bouncing around to the music, no one wanted to be messing around putting records on and having them damaged.
