It looks like the Germans are going to legalise it for personal use, like Canada and California.

I am currently in the states and have spent 4 days in New York.

It has made me have a complete change of thought on this

I was thinking that it was so widely used I couldn’t see any reason to not allow it. It would also potentially eradicate the dealers.

Having spent time there and many hours walking the streets I am now firmly in the camp of no chance

The whole place stinks and it is everywhere.  So many people on the streets off their heads

It is being sold in every form you can think of.  Advertised on street vans. There was one van offering cannabis wedding cakes.  Vans selling it on loads of busy corners. There are no windows in the vans but they are highly decorated to attract people.

I can see it being more widely legalised in lots of places. I was very surprised how it affected everything.  It was the prominent smell everywhere and must be affecting everyone’s life

BB and Wolfie are both old enough to remember the effect of the gin craze

https://www.historyhit.com/what-was-the-gin-craze-and-why-did-it-happen/

In the first half of the 18th century, London slums were rife with an epidemic of drunkenness. With over 7,000 gin shops by 1730, gin was available to buy at every street corner.

The legislative backlash that arose has been compared to modern drug wars. So how did Hanoverian London reach such levels of depravity? etc etc.................................

The water was so dangerous it was safer to drink gin, that's how.

Its also where the term 'mothers ruin' comes from as women were allowed in the gin houses, some of them liked the stuff a little too much turning them alcoholic and turning to prostitution to feed their kids and/or addiction.

Drug drive related deaths will go up in Germany for sure.

In Washington state, a 2016 report by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that fatal crashes of drivers who recently used marijuana doubled after the state legalized it.
There is a similar story across us states that have legalised this.

I would hazard a guess and say that the next Lab/Lib/Green/ whatever government will be under pressure to legalise it in this country.

Big mistake i reckon as others have said Sh*t happens when people are wondering around off their tits.It wouldn't surprise me to see them legalise it first in controlled environments like shops and clubs. Sill the wrong thing to do, but when you see the state of some of the liberal left you can see why.

In the UK it’s a class B drug. If caught in possession you could face a custodial sentence. If caught in possession importing the drug into the country you will face a custodial sentence for having even a small quantity (there can be some discretion) & if you’re job is as a ‘professional person’ i.e., a teacher, health worker etc., expect your employer to be notified.

And yet a uk citizen with a drug conviction for minor weed possession would not get a visa to enter the USA. Bonkers.

Not really. It's the same as when we were in the EU, if someone entered the UK carrying goods that were prohibited in the UK but were legal in their end destination (ie they were carrying cannabis on their way to The Netherlands) they'd be busted by UK Customs.

Just because something is legal at state level in the US doesn't make it legal at Federal level.

We have friends who went to Florida some years ago. 4 couples. All paid for. Three weeks before they went one of the blokes had his visa knocked back. Reason? He had a caution for weed possession when he was 21. 20 years ago.
The USA will not allow visas to uk citizens with certain pre cons. Drug and any crime associated with violence. Plus other reasons.

There’s nothing in their about alcohol that isn’t widely known

Have I misunderstood you Syd or are you advocating drugs as a suitable alternative

DRFC I was of the same opinion. Not any more I’ve had a complete change of heart on the subject. I do agree that the drug supply problem has never been addressed

There’s no doubt alcohol causes violent behaviour I’ve known some really nice people who drink certain things and suddenly think they’re Mike Tyson

I’ve also now seen the streets full of people off their heads on weed and how it affects everyone because it’s there constantly as an odour everywhere you go

I’m sure at some stage we will follow suit as will most western countries.  If it is legalised in any way it needs to be better controlled like the Netherlands
You can walk around Amsterdam without the smell being everywhere

In all fairness, legalization doesnt have to mean its in public.

Dispensaries is one thing, where its consumed is another.

If people don't comply, big fines.

Some countries seem to have gone all in, personally dont feel thats neccesary
