I realise its only one game but I thought he was very good tonight, looked very assured on the ball and didnt get bullied once. Whereas Olowu & Williams always look like they have a mistake in them, Long looked confident and in control. My preferred patnership at CB would be Long & Anderson.

Thought he was one of the few highlights of the game, looked assured with the ball at his feet. A ready replacement for Joe if his injury is any length

i think by the end of the season long and anderson will be our favoured centre backs, joe has improved but every mistake he makes is a massive one and again williams seems to have improved but don't think he is a patch on a fit anderson

That’s if Anderson is still here after August!

From how Long was described i think he'd be a good partner for either Williams or Olowu. They both just need to simplify their games and have a calm head to play football and tell them what to do. I'd prefer Olowu to play with Long i think he's got more potential and pace over Williams.

Would love to rely on Anderson but i'm taking him as i would Close or Taylor. It's a bonus if we get games from them

Not sure myself, looks ok on the ball but not blessed with pace, looked far happier not shoving up field, and most teams strikers are  quick and can get behind or expose space in players holding back deep.
Lincoln didn't play up to the strikers much in the air preferring to mount attacks down the flanks how good he is in the air is a bit of an unknown.

Should have stopped the first goal way to slow to let striker tap it in

Looked to be carrying way too much weight, too slow for first and second goal. Not for me.

If you’re going to play the high press game, you must have quick defenders, when players run behind them. Otherwise you get half a job where the defence doesn’t follow the rest of the team and you leave a gap where you get picked off on the break. You can leave a Clayton in there to pick the bits up.

You will see more and more if we try to play that way, teams picking us off with direct balls into areas. Also if the fitness isn’t there, the team will concede late goals, running out of steam in the last ten to twenty minutes. You have to use your substitutions wisely to counteract this.

Just watched the highlights and agree about the first goal. Too slow.
2nd one was down to Biggins surely?
3rd was another calamity from Williams. Is he a six footer really? Very weak if so.

Long was in u23 last year. I'm sure he'll quicken up after a month or so.

To slow on the first, let the attacker get in front of him.

Second, after Biggins had been left for dead Long could of come across and fronted up to the attacker, left it to late and left Olowu too much to do.

Third, could quite easily been given as a foul as the attacker jumped into Williams, you win some you lose others.

At least you were willing to give him a reasonable chance before writing him off.

I love how people are ready to write him off and sneer at him, and yet seem happy with the 2 puddings we had at CB for most of last season's horror show.

Maxwell looks good. Mitchell and Knoyle look much improved from last season. Central defence mixed bag. Rock solid at Bradford, powder puff since.
