The only fact is that he wasn’t picked and that was a judgement call by Wellens. We can all draw conclusions on the reasons for that judgement but the assumptions on either side are just that - speculation. Neither Wellens nor Bogle has come out and publicly badmouthed the other.

At the time I backed Wellens’ judgement as he was our manager, but I can see why others questioned it. It doesn’t matter now, though. Wellens has gone and Bogle is back in the fold and he has my full support. He can be useful for us between now and the end of the season and any player will be more effective if they’re happy, confident and supported.

You can see the tactic of freezing someone out in advance of a window to try and accelerate a move, but doing this afterwards seems insane. At best you have to wait until the next window for this to have any potential effect. Once Wellens knew we had nothing to offer up front after the summer window, it does seem poor that Omar was frozen out basically for refusing a move, rather than a bad attitude.

I said at the time that was bad management to handle it the way Wellens did. All the evidence now made public points to this and suggests a failure of the CEO to recognise how the manager was mishandling and wasting the club’s resources. Wellens inflicted this loss of the services of 2 senior players at a time when moaning about bad luck and injuries was his main theme in his press conferences. This alone might have prompted a challenge from above. I don’t recall any close questioning from the journalists about it either. It would be difficult to argue that it did not impact on performances and results. By failing to put out any statement on the subject, all too many fans seemed to want to believe the worst of the two.

Or, without seemingly any evidence, do they still believe Wellens was justified in his action?

It doesn't matter now in so far as we can't change the past. But if we do end up going down by a handful of points, it will have mattered hugely.

Just glad i've put my fishing rod away and the lid is tightly fixed on my "can of worms"

could say "Dodged a bullet there ? but at what cost ??"

You're making a big assumption that Wellens wasn't challenged from above.

Of course he was, but we're not expecting the CEO to start running the football side of the business now are we?

It was his big decision as manager and it ended up contributing to his downfall.
