I said at the time that was bad management to handle it the way Wellens did. All the evidence now made public points to this and suggests a failure of the CEO to recognise how the manager was mishandling and wasting the club’s resources. Wellens inflicted this loss of the services of 2 senior players at a time when moaning about bad luck and injuries was his main theme in his press conferences. This alone might have prompted a challenge from above. I don’t recall any close questioning from the journalists about it either. It would be difficult to argue that it did not impact on performances and results. By failing to put out any statement on the subject, all too many fans seemed to want to believe the worst of the two.Or, without seemingly any evidence, do they still believe Wellens was justified in his action?
