Good article, to which I would add one consideration.
Our process for bringing in transfers is not the only problem, the process for managerial appointment is ineffective.

We have a process in place to select a new manager. It is longer than most clubs use, but it has led to appointments which did not continue, because individuals chose to leave.

Now this is par for the course in modern football, but the disruption caused by staff departures (as a unit usually) takes a period of recovery. A new boss inherits contracts agreed by previous managers which restrict his options.

Maybe we need to have guidance on what we expect contract extensions with current staff to involve.
Was it reasonable to give Taylor 3 years just before bringing in a new manager?

The other elephant in the room is man management skills, and how Rovers assess this important aspect.
This is a critical part of the job, yet some with a football background are poor at understanding how best to go about it.

Do DRFC endorse the exclusion of paid employees on gardening leave?
Perhaps the club need to have guidance on how to manage these situations in a reasonable way!

RA is indeed a very good sports writer and is a good friend of mine.
It is a shame that he has chosen not to write in the forum right now and has told me that it is definitely a place to avoid for the time being.

Excellent post, Albie, and one which I totally agree with. I believe the Rovers have got the last 2 managerial appointments wrong, going on each occasion with an ex-player, neither of which had any experience of League 1 football. Of course, if RW turns it all around, I'll be more than happy to hold my hand up on here and admit that I got it wrong.

Regarding Alias and Hound, I can vouch that they're both cracking guys.

If you look at what we have on the books for next season, it is a lot of very average players in the last year of their deal. They know they have no future here after the shambles this season. Imagine lining up in August away at Barrow or somewhere with Dodoo, Hiwula and Agard up front. Just picture that, because it’s what we’ve got.

We’re not sleepwalking as that would imply we’re mobile. More like the entire club’s been in a coma for 14 months.

Our current squad will struggle in L2.
When I think back to how exciting we were to watch under McCann it is heartbreaking watching us now.

I'd say we are Jack Douglas walking into L2.

I've been fully supportive of the board but it gets to a point where having a decent budget and being good at business isn't enough. It clearly isn't working and perhaps is time for change from the top down.

More like John Mills in the end scene in Ice Cold in Alex but instead of a cold beer it is a bucket of cold sick he is made to drink.
