Goodbye?

Is John Bostock saying goodbye
I hope not
This is his tweet

"A positive game to close off a challenging season. Thank you to all the Rovers fans who traveled to support us yesterday. Every confidence this club will bounce back. "

THIS CLUB. Not WE

Would have said WE if knew he was staying surely.
Sounds like he is on his way.

Good player. But not devastated if he goes.

Most players play 'at' clubs rather than 'for' them these days. I think saying 'them' instead of 'us' is now quite the norm.

Martin said "we" several times in his post but he's less likely to be here than Bostock.

People read too much into these posts.

They won’t hold him to that if he gets a better offer. The club has never stood in the way of players leaving. His wages would free up the chance to get others, but not as good as him would come in.

Amen to that.

I'm of the opinion that we ditch anyone who doesn't want to stay.

It seems quite simplistic from a fan's point of view; if you want to be here, stay if you don't bog off! But when you've got your agent and your Mrs in your earhole and she's used to seeing x amount go into your joint account every week it's not always black and white.

when watching his YouTube video made before he came here he said the a manager had offered him a contract that wasn't that high but he would be playing so accepted it. So I'm not sure he's on as big a wage as people think.

When Bostock joined us he had just been on loan to a big Championship club, from a top flight French side. So his idea of a high wage will have been something above what we even offer players. Just because it wasn't high for him at the time, doesn't mean it didn't make him one of our top earners when he signed.

I would add a bit of a caveat to that - he had been unemployed for a fair while and there didn’t seem to be a group of clubs interested. So maybe some money is better than no money.
That said in his video he didn’t come across as totally money motivated

We are in League Two next season. There is no way on earth he is playing in League Two next season. You could see him signing for a top League One side this summer. He won’t be with us next season.

Unless it’s someone throwing money about Stockport/Wrexham?

Do not think any one will be on more than £2.500 per week.  Rowe, Close, Bostock, Anderson, Taylor,  Fej and now Clayton i would imagine are on the most money.
Out of them only Rowe has played a significant no of games, although Clayton only arrived in January of course.
Is it any wonder we got relegated when our biggest earners and best players have been watching from the stands nearly all season and in the case of our only league 1 standard striker not kicked one ball in anger for the entire season.

Even with a poor manager and I believe RW was poor at man management with a full squad fit we would easily have been mid table this season.

If Notts County go up it would be ideal for him if they have any money now

I actually think as good a player he is he’s always been a bit of a luxury type player at league one level, given the choice between him & Dan Gardner for next season I’d probably go Gardner because no matter what league you’re in, it’s always been horses for courses players to get you out again & Bostock isn’t a roll sleeves up, get stuck In that’s needed.

I’m pretty certain he’ll end up at Hillsborough unless DM gets the boot if they don’t get promoted.

Well he's been offered a new deal, will he sign it?
I hope so.

Time to get ruthless. Offer him the contract - valid 2 weeks. Sign it - perfect let's get a photo with GMC & Copps and tell us what the club means to him etc..

Don't sign it within 2 weeks.

Go to your next option. Let's start the hard work in recruitment right now!!

He is a fantastic player and would give us an edge of quality over others. If he wants to stay great, but if not let him go.
If he does go we need to create a more dynamic, quick moving midfield. We need another midfielder with a goal in him. Tommy Rowe chipped in last season, but very few apart from him did.

We need to build a team where the whole side is a goal threat, even the defenders. Those type of sides, like a Man City are the hardest to stop playing. Though Real Madrid managed it.
We need similar on a much smaller scale.

Of course we want to keep him he's a class act and will help get us playing the ball on the floor rather than getting dragged into scrappy football.

Like CR says we can't be waiting too long so i'd say by the 1st day of preseason if he ain't coming to sign a contract we're on to our next target. Also a slight concern if we are to have Bostock and Clayton in midfield is we'd lack running power. So it could be for the best if he goes and we use the money on a younger robust box to box type to play alongside Clayton
