just heard that for the second day running Coningsby had the highest temperature in the uk - see below to see the "official" met - offices statement

so what you say  :headbang:

has anyone heard of RAF Coningsby

THE STATION

RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire is one of two RAF Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) Stations which protect UK airspace. RAF Lossiemouth is the other.

RAF Coningsby is home to two frontline, combat-ready squadrons and is the training station for Typhoon pilots.

Almost 3,000 Service Personnel, Civil Servants, and contractors work at RAF Coningsby.

Around 10 am  yesterday they had three planes airbound going over Lincolnshire Norfolk etc creating deafening noises - never known it so bad

one was a Typhoon another a Eurofighter and a Wolf... something or other (hopefully Donnywolf isn't moonlighting as the pilot)

so just think about all the "artificial" heat being generated prior to take offs

perhaps someone needs to invest in some "purchasing" some common sense (yes there is a shortage of that at the moment) and perhaps move the weather station to a more "sensible" position

or are we asking too much for someone to act "in the heat of the moment"

Was the weather station recording a different temperature at 10am than during the rest of the day when there wasn't any planes about? If not...load of b*llocks.

Do you know that the Typhoon and Eurofighter are one and the same thing?

RAF conningsby is also the home to the battle of Britain memorial flight.
It would be pretty high up on russias hit list if grid forbid it ever came to it.
Along with lakenheath. And Lossiemouth.

I think the call sign is Wolfhound, but there ain’t any up at the mo to check, it is Sunday and the RAF dont often work weekends or after 12 on a friday come to that. If you down load the app Flightradar24 (FR24) you can sometimes spot them flying over the North Sea and the Wash area or search for the by using ZK3 in the search box. Look out for C/S Chaos, Vandal to name a couple.

I had a good watch of all the Fly past for Queens 70th recently

Watching them gathering out over Wash and North Sea and some mini stacks before they commenced their run into The Mall

Good to watch what the next one or group would be .

I was in North Notts this afternoon not far from East Mids airport.
I caught a glimpse of what I thought was the Lancaster quite low down and then some nearby trees blocked my view.
Anyone know whether the Lanc was in that region today.

North Notts and East Mids Airport don’t go in the same sentence

It is if you’ve got to walk it, not so if you’re flying

Now it has the all time UK Record Temp @ 40.3

A few more to declare yet like DSA so they could lose it again

its obvious they reved up one of their typhoo fighters to tip the temperature up  as they sat drinking their cups of tea (naturally typhoo tips)

Lincs county council were out measuring road surface temps yesterday to determine if sand spreading was needed. In Timberland near z Lincoln they measured a road surface of 56c . Ashphalt melts at 50

Had a wasted trip up to Seamer tonight, had an assessment to carry out on a working crew at Muston near Filey, the rail temp was still over 58c, wasted calls all afternoon to see if this was going to get knocked but they insisted it would go ahead!

Rail temps in that region turn the rails into soft spaghetti when trains run over it at speed, NWR had 20mph ESR on it all day as well.

Proper bunch of cowboys.
