Mentioned it in Daft question thread but Railway closing 18th September

There will doubtless be more and more.

I'm in Barrow and there's 10 here that should be closed

Shame about Railway, proper pub but the odd pint I have there won't keep wolf from the door. We were in Sheffield Saturday and first drink was in 3tons. It's a gorgeous piece of architecture inside and and out. It's clearly been struggling of late but was ticking over with lads who had forgot to tell wives football wasn't on . The landlord said. last Sunday he didn't sell a drink 12 -5. How can you keep heating on with that income

Btw if you are in sheff the restaurant 'no name ' Shalesmore is fantastic and pub over road pretty good too

Shame to see any pub close, but every time I've been into The Railway I've never really been inspired to revisit any time soon - the beer, service and general ambience has always been a bit lacking IMHO.

They can't sustain the costs themselves and are paying the price as they cant pass the costs on either

Listened to bloke the other day complaining re cost of energy etc in his pizza shop. Had calculated he would need to charge £25 per Pizza to make any profit

I'll not name it here as I've heard second hand and not sure if the owner wants it to be public knowledge but one of my favourite Donny cafés will almost certainly be closing in the next month or so too.

I now live on the Leeds/Wakey border so haven't been in of late but nevertheless it'll be a huge shame for the independent business owner and his customers if he has to call it a day.

Totally off the subject but Leeds/Wakefield boarder? Robin Hood or Lofthouse by chance?

The writing was on the wall for this pub going right back to 1992/3 when they brought in the new drugs and alcohol policy on the Railway.

On most week nights and especially on the weekend this pub was full with Railway Track gangs having a quick shifty before their shifts. On the sat night it could be anything up to 200 or so workers all having a skinful, come chucking out time they would all drift off to their chip vans and go off to wherever they were working.

Usually a good number would decide to can the shift and stay in the pub( they'd started so they decided to finish)

This was core customers for this pub for years, as soon as it had to stop(and it did because if they were seen going into any pub it was instant dismissal, no appeal)

I'm just surprised that this one and the Corner Pin lasted so long, the Horse and Jockey closed even earlier but that was well run down. Just down to The Leopard now.
