The worry is that the lower down the pyramid you go the more serious the finances become.

I’ve mentioned on here before that teams in the National Leagues are reliant on alcohol sales to survive. It’s not just the gate money.

Previous surveys show that midweek games which are up against Champions League games show a very marked reduction in attendances, therefore it’s not just away fans that decide against attending.

Once you make this change there is no going back. The reason English football is so popular is because away fans travel in numbers, it doesn’t  happen anywhere on the scale we have.

Wonder if it might work to provide just the away Teams fans a feed ?

Today I am pig sick I have to rely on SSN and it's score updates .... but getting tired of driving travelling to away games.

So I would be one of many that would gladly pay the £10 to watch live and though some of the die hard travelling fans might be tempted to do that as well the vast majority would still go for the live spectacle

I know there are Sticks advertised here and there and I could get one I suppose but I would rather have the real thing

Carlisle today might actually get higher Gate takings if away fans dropping slightly and losing some Food and drink takings was eclipsed by another 1000 of us giving them an extra £10 per person (all away fan subscriptions would go to home Club less the admin fees. (That could be the stumbling block maybe SM)
I think more fans would travel away if it did not cost as much for the tickets £24 at Rochdale ,£25 at Crewe with travel and a couple of pints is £50-60 a game that's a lot of money for a man or woman with a family ,if tickets were £15 for away fans more away ends would be full ,I have IPTV and could watch any 3pm kickoff I wanted but I still attend nearly every home game when not away and go to away games when possible ,football fans will always attend live games in the flesh ,I follow is great for people who are house bound or live miles away and cannot attend matches.Im not sure you would get groups of people watching a TV on a Saturday afternoon with a beer it's not the same feeling ,think back to what is was like watching it in the pandemic on tv

Not sure that the comparison to Champions League is all that relevant here - if it was just an EFL thing I don’t think people would stay at home to watch, say, Norwich vs West Brom above Rovers. No idea what the impact would be for our fans choosing to watch from home, though. Have there ever been surveys done to assess the potential impact?

It’s not a comparison, it’s factually supported information given by the club’s themselves.

But it’s not just an EFL thing, if the 3pm watershed goes it goes for everybody.

Does it? The article that I linked is talking about rights for the EFL games and as I understood it the PL is a separate body. If the blackout goes for all fixtures then fair enough, I agree that it’s a different conversation.

The reason I said the comparison of this situation to the impact of Champions League games was irrelevant is because I didn’t realise that the PL blackout would also be lifted so I didn’t think we would be competing against Arsenal, Man United etc. As I’ve said, though, if that’s the case then I withdraw that comment.

There two arguments merged into one here which is confusing.

On the one hand the EFL are courting new revenue streams and looking for new broadcasters. The 3pm blackout is mentioned but it is a game wide talking point. Yes the EFL have mentioned it to supporter groups but the EPL would snatch your hand off if they can get it too. So far it’s been the EFL that has stopped them.
