Our second PL home game in 1997 was against Chelsea .

We didn't expect too much from the game admittedly but Gianluca was simply magnificent and scored four of Chelsea's six goals that day .

I think it was his hatrick goal that drew applause from the three parts of Oakwell .

A long punt from the Chelsea keeper down field and he just let it come over his head , one touch out of his feet and smashed it in the bottom corner .

It was pure brilliance and it was a pleasure to witness his performance that day .

Lovely lovely man too .

RIP Gianluca a magnificent footballer and an even better man .

Taken ‘from us’ far too early.

A thoughtful, intelligent man & a fantastic footballer.
