Players missing from squad
« on February 16, 2023, 07:51:29 pm by Chris Black come back »
Taylor out for season and looking less likely we see Younger again this season. Biggins out for a few more weeks yet. Anderson probably another week away.

Griffiths and Agard appear to have been dropped from squad. Is Long dropped as well or injured?

Faulkner, Ravenhill and Kuleya out on loan.

Where have Jones and Bottomley gone?

No, it was Biggins rated 50-50. Long will be available for selection.

Long & Bottomley injured.
I believe it’s a foot injury for the former & finger problem for the latter.

Well in the space of 30 mins, long has gone from being 50/50 to available to injured. I'm guessing nobody knows.
Don't think he would make the starting line up anyway, and think he would be behind rsw on the bench

The rest I’ve no idea

Long was back in training last week so is available for selection although I can’t see him being in the squad.

Anderson will be back for the Stockport game as DS giving him 10-14 days to get his foot right instead of risking him.

Agard and Reo I believe are just not being selected atm.

Biggins is back in training with the physio and is touch and go for Saturday.

Jones and Bottomley have both suffered “minor injuries” so don’t know how long they are both out for.

Really disappointed with Reo. He has the attributes to be a very good player, just hasn’t done it for us. Long is a good defender in a side that plays deep, push up the field and he gets caught for pace. Agard has done ok in bits, never really had a proper run in the side.

Taylor is a class player at this level, the poor guy has had some rubbish luck with injuries.
Jones is a decent goalkeeper who needs opportunities to improve. Biggins has been really good at times but ordinary at others. He needs to be more consistent.

Younger again a good player no luck with injuries. Ravenhill a bit of a mad dog like his dad, just needs to learn when he can and can’t put tackles in. Kuleya has some potential, not sure playing at that level is helping bring it out.

The vibe I get from Reo is that he’s just not feeling up to it. Like why didn’t he get a loan move if he’s not injured?

If he’s not good to get in our team / squad which he isn’t and never has been. Which clubs would want to take him on loan.

We still need some players available outside the match day squad to cover for future injuries and suspensions.  Such players are just lower down the pecking order - doesn’t mean they aren’t good enough in general nor good enough for loaning.

They just have to earn their places.

GMC signed Agard and Griffiths 12 months both have played or started in a handful of games. Both have had injuries and when selected in the squad have done nothing to retain their places. These two are examples how our recruitment policies have  wasted money.

However, look back twelve months how many people grumbled at the signings? Griffith's for on should have been a great signing and the type most of us want to go for but it's not worked at all.

75pc of all the league appearances Agard has made for us have been from the bench. Not every player is or has to be a 90minute player but I assume he is one of our higher earners, and we can’t really afford impact players on those kind of wages. Likewise Taylor.

Taylor is the exception to the rule. He's a good player and certainly good enough for L2 and L1 levels but he's been desperately unlucky with injuries. This shouldn't stop us from offering our longer contracts to players though; it's sport and that stuff happens. Agard was brought in against the likes of Dodoo Hiwula Bogle and Cukur. The levels of forwards we had that season was staggeringly terrible. Stevie Wonder would have made a better TIM than Younger.

I think that Biggins will benefit from Lakin being brought in as he will have to improve his consistency to get back in the side as a regular, likewise that will drive Lakin on if Biggins improves. Just what we need, two decent players in each position pushing each other to raise standards.

Reminder - Biggins is our player, Lakin isn’t (yet). Just saying.

Agard hadn't had a run in the side because he's clearly not fit for 90 minutes.

He's been with us 13 months. He's never managed more than 73 minutes.

He's occasionally looked ok in cameo sub appearances, but let's be honest - the club could last for another thousand years and still never sign as bad a set of forwards as we did in 21/22. I cannot begin to fathom what we were doing signing Dodoo, Hiwula, Cukur, Agard and Griffiths.

Prince Moncrieffe scored more goals in 1997/98 than all of those above did collectively last season.

Unpopular opinion but I do think Reo has potential to be a good striker at this level and possibly the level above, u don’t come through spurs academy and then be picked up by lyon for nothing.

Last season was his first in mens football after not playing for over 12 months due to Lyons B team not playing any games cos of covid and this season he’s struggled with injuries, he does look overweight but if he can stay injury free and impress in training he could turn out to be a good player for us. Barlow is someone who didn’t look anywhere near good enough last season but Schofield has said numerous times how much he rates him as a player and is coming off the bench regularly (thought he looked good when he came on against Barrow) so shows if u impress in training DS will give u a chance.

I believe the way we play we need to prioritise a big physical centre forward in the summer, becoming obvious Griffiths is not up to that role. Really feel for Miller when we play the ball up to him with little support, he gets battered all game. If we had the option of a bigger  more physical striker, maybe we would increase possession & dominate games more.

Louis Jones has had a leg operation (according to his Instagram). I guess this will put him out of action for a while. I think Bottomley is not far away from returning to fitness.

Because neither Bottomley nor Oram has played a senior game, we could bring in an emergency loan if anything happened to Mitchell.

I've not seen any evidence whatsoever that Griffiths is any better than all the other puddings we had up front last season.

I think Reo is more a player for a more direct style,  maybe doesn't buy in to Schofield's ethos. Having said that Miller isn't really firing at the moment.
