I know people, strong, hard people, who have experienced magnitude 6.5 earthquakes and they say it is the most frightening thing they ever knew and left them emotionally scarred. To experience a 7.8 magnitude earthquake, lose kids and partners and parents and THAN after all that, have to exist in freezing conditions without shelter, water or power because the scale of the recovery work is so enormous...I can barely begin to think about it without wanting to break down in tears.Poor, poor people. I hope the wealthy countries step up to help these people survive and rebuild their lives.
Intriguing to see what the initial response to this disaster will be from the leading western nations, it looks like all the NGO's are ramping up to meet this head on but its been very muted from the US, UK, and French governments.Should we be reading into this that they want to draw pressure onto Erdoğan and al-Assad? I'd say there's a time and place for everything, but just now is not it for these poor people.
