It was like baseball at times - immense and his approach gave Root the impetus to reach his hundred as well.

Fancy being in a match situation as the bowling side where you're actually desperate to get Ben Stokes in to bat.

He's just over 200 runs and 2 innings from being the fastest ever international batsman to 1000 runs

I watched a bit of the game last night. First time I've seen him. Some of his driving was incredible. Very little foot movement, but absolutely straight out of the middle of the bat, even on a green wicket where the ball was moving about. Be interesting to see if the Australian attack could find weaknesses in his technique.

Look at the company he is in!

Top seven fastest batsmen to 1000 test runs.

Herbert Sutcliffe - 12 innings
Everton Weekes - 12 innings
Don Bradman  - 13 innings
Neil Harvey - 14 innings
Vinod Kambli - 14 innings (whatever happened to him?)
Len Hutton - 16 innings
Frank Worrell - 16 innings

Brook has 807 and is still at the crease in his tenth innings.

Trouble with this is that Yorkshire Cricket supporters will get see even less of him playing for his county. Same goes for Root and Bairstow, the problem with being successful I suppose.

Harry Brook looks to have the lot in order to play top class cricket in the modern era .

I say modern era because test cricket is a completely different animal to the one I grew up watching when Sir Geoff was batting for England .

Special mention to Jimmy Anderson this morning , 685 test match wickets is unbelievable for a quicker bowler , his longevity is incredible given the punishment the body takes bowling quicker deliveries .

I modelled myself on Boycott. I once played a match in the South Riding League at Bradford. Came in to bat at No.6 when we were 40-odd for 4, chasing 200-odd. Captain at the other end said we were going to go for a losing draw so could I try to just hang around and not give too many chances.

I batted 16 overs for 1 run. Was not popular with the fielding side...

Some indication of how the game has moved on.

Brook is in his 6th test. He's already hit more sizes in test cricket than David Gower and Alec Stewart combined. In 250 matches.

Did you bat right handed or were you a leftie.
