London parking and tube help
« on March 12, 2023, 04:15:17 pm by Batleyred »
I'm going to drive down to London for an appointment at 8.30 Wednesday. I'll drive down early hours. I need to be at the US embassy. Vauxhall seems to be the closest tube so if I park on the outskirts of London and get the tube in. Can anyone recommend where's best to park and what tubes to take.

Many thanks

Years since I've done it, but the most convenient always used to be Stanmore tube station at the end of the Jubilee line. It's only a mile or so from the M1. You used to be able to park for free in residential streets nearby but that stopped years ago. There's a pay car park by the station and you'd be well advised to book ahead if you can.

From Stanmore, take the Jubilee line to Green Park, then the Victoria line to Vauxhall. There's a tube every 3-4 mins and it takes about 45 mins.

The north London ones worked well, I did similar when I went for a work visa but that was over 10 yrs back now and at the old embassy.

I hope it's more relaxed than my visit, spent about 6 hours there doing nothing and they confiscated phones etc on the way in (phones not quite as high tech back then either).

As Billy has pointed out , Stanmore all day long , absolute piece of cake .

Thank you everyone. Got a parking space, 12 hours for £10.99 two minutes from Stanmore just in case I'm at the embassy for 6 hours plus :woot:

Tube strike day I'm going. It seems I can get there via train. Stanmore still the best option?

Probably a bit late now, but travelling down from up north, parking up at Peterborough is a very good cheap option for getting into central London. The Thames link service runs from Peterborough and goes to London Bridge, which then gives you access to anywhere. Saves trying to get parked near a north London tube. And less driving of course.
One to consider in the future perhaps.

Very difficult to get in if the tube's not running. I think I'd be asking the Embassy for an alternative date.

If the tube's not running, I'd think your best bet is to go round the M25 to Staines and get the overground train. But the roads and trains are going to be rammed. Anyone's guess how long the journey will take.

Are the buses running as normal? When ever my pal goes to London he always uses buses rather than Tube, mindst you he is a tight get so is able to use his bus pass

Cockfosters tube station has 322 parking spaces (blue badge holders free parking if booked in advance) 12 hours for £6.

Cockfosters to Vauxhall on Piccadilly line 24 minutes.

Mind you if it’s a tube strike day I might just have well have told you (in the inimitable words of Jim Bowen) ‘Here’s what you could have won’!
