Odious Raab gets justice (finally) for his inept abilities (and bullying)

Maybe he can reprise his role as the "hapless" Mr Fairbrother in Hi de Hi now

Admit it . You've never seen them in same room have you ?

His resignation letter is something to behold.
He's got a self awareness bypass.

Saw this on Twitter from Paul Embrey

As I have said before, we should all stand against blatant hypocrisy in politics. The truth is that senior Labour figures said little when John Bercow was exposed as a serial bully. In fact, some of them conspired to keep him in post. Why? Because they knew he was on their side.

That would be Conservative John Bercow, Labour didn’t and haven’t got the majority to throw him out

All the accusations against him that were not proven, do the accusers get the sack for wasting the governments time and us the the taxpayers money?
There needs to be a very big clear out in the civil service.

I despise bullies. I have been the victim of work place bullying myself.
But I do think there is something in what Raab said about a low bar being set. Bullying accusations are becoming more and more frequent throughout society, and I can see it being a problem in government for years to come, for all parties.
It’s yet another example of how broken this country is.

A lot of truth in what you've said, It's become a byword for incompetence and failure that individuals now use whenever they come under pressure for being useless.

Carrying on down this road is leading this country to ruin

Spineless manipulation.

Anyway Raab had a 19000 plus majority at Election before last ....
... then only 2000 last time

Anecdotally the Constituents don't like him (Source ?  I have friends there ) and apart from the Sea being closed they hated him turning up in a Christmas Jumper with a Box of Chocolates for the Staff of the Foodbank

Don't know him personally but as a Politician he has been in so !any gaffes including not knowing Calais to Dover route was rather important in terms of import exports

Where do they get these t**s in almost inexhaustible supplies ?

I have. I'm looking at this point in particular,

"(3) The different roles of a Minister and a line manager 108. A Minister does not have line management responsibilities for the civil servants who work as policy officials in the relevant department or those who work in the private office. Such line management responsibility resides within the department itself, ultimately with the Permanent Secretary as the department’s most senior civil servant. 109. However, a Minister may to a significant extent depend, in order to progress his or her policies and other goals, on the quality of work provided by civil servants, in the form of advice (including written submissions and other papers) and general management and administration. 110. There is an unresolved policy issue of some general relevance, material to some of my findings, as to the extent to which it is appropriate for a Minister to provide comments to civil servants in the nature of performance feedback. In this context, there is of course an important difference between a constructive comment to the effect that a piece of work can be improved by taking a certain step and an unconstructive and unfair general criticism, and there is a range of intermediate possibilities. There can be a degree of real urgency in relation to a Minister’s priorities and it may be a source of frustration if those priorities cannot be successfully pursued."

So, do we think that this point has been utilised by the "junior civil servants " as when Rabb has asked for comment. documents, advice that was by necessity required to be of an expedited nature and its been taken literally by someone who's gone crying to their line manager that the big nasty Minister wanted something quickly and me as a weeny junior civil servant thinks he's bullying me.

I can quite well imagine that this happens on a regular basis, like i said earlier, the country is going to hell in a hand cart with the attitudes on display these days.

I would imagine that we've all had a work experience where we've got on the wrong side of a senior manager who expects his underlings to work as hard and have the same attitude as themselves. If the opposite is true then a state of tension will prevail.

Rabb apparently works 14 hour days, vary rarely switches off and has an attention to detail that most would find suffocating. If this type of individual comes into contact on a regular basis with civil servants who are not made of the same cloth and are more preoccupied with ensuring they can continue to work from home and basically toss it off when at work then someone is going to get shouted at on a regular basis.

But lets sack the workaholic because what this country needs just now is even less attention to detail!!

He has a point on one hand that ministers should be strong authoritative characters, indeed they're elected civil servants are not.  The line I saw was "he acts like he's the one in charge". Well yes he was and there feels to be an air of civil servants being a little too political at times.  I guess it always has and will be that way, they can't possibly not have leanings politically.

I do though feel you should leave your role if you don't follow the strategy and most of my recent team at work have done just that. I'm fine with that, I want everyone buying in aswell.  The difference being I wouldn't bully or criticise them for it.

However, there's a very good point about working for and with bullies. I 100% don't believe it works in any way in the work place.  I've also worked with people I'd see as bullies, the owners of a company I worked for for example. Fair play they're super rich, but they didn't take people with them and acted totally wrong and it hindered them. Raab clearly can't take his subordinates with him. At best bad leadership but it seems much more than that.

I did see Peston comment he's seen far worse though. Clearly the tolerances are much lower now, we all need to move with that (see the club statement thread for example). It's not hard to be nice.

Is that Raab the workaholic that stayed on his sunbed ignoring the evacuation of British Nationals from Afganistan?

So what in your opinion would you have liked Rabb to physically do whilst the evacuation was taking place, fly a plane, run the security, check the passports.?

You do realise what you are saying is akin to asking TB to take training sessions and pick the team!!
