Was the Woodcock story true I heard afterwards that he was never for sale
Just shows even with Kitch, Brendan and TC, we were struggling at the bottom. We were poor defensively mind. I started going to Rovers under my own steam with my mates at 14 from 1975 and the bright notes were our combo of Kitch, Brendan and Windy Miller and I remember vividly that season 76/77 when we won 6 in a row and how the attendances increased during that great run. Alas we fell short and didn't reach those heights until after Bremner arrived. Definitely worth remembering our expectations in those times were more modest compared to now. We just accepted that's how it was and just hoped one day it would improve and at least have a crack at promotion. Football is a completely different world now especially the transfer market, the gossip and the obsession with money. In those days a bit of money went a lot further but, a lack of it saw us sail very close to the wind in subsequent years particularly after the Bradford disaster. Little did we know, our main stand would also feel the heat in very different circumstances some years later. Selling squares of the Belle Vue turf to raise money was another low. I just wish our fans were a little more humble and appreciative of what we have now by comparison. Dirty stadium, bad owners? You're having a laugh.
