Pickford is another one that you could say has never let England down, but does that mean he’s the best English goalkeeper..I don’t think so.

That’s the point though, why should southgate drop players just because they may not be performing for another manager?
If they’ve been very good for him why would he drop them for someone else, makes no sense at all

Because we should be picking the players with the best ability in their position.

This is the mentality that got us nowhere during the 'golden generation'. You pick the best team, that doesn't always mean picking the best individual players.

Pickford's ability with his feet is more valuable to the overall performance of the team than Pope's (just an example) superior shot-stopping. Pickford can step out, pick passes and launch counter attacks or relieve pressure.

Pickford is England's best for me. Games last season his performances kept Everton up too.
