I don't understand why people are so surprised by this. Doesn't this just show you that they knew COVID wasn't a death sentence for anyone who got it?

Then they should have told the people who did die of it that they had nothing to worry about instead of imposing lockdown rules on them and their families.

No it shows that the rules didn't apply to those further up the so called social scale , only to you , me and millions of others .

What's going on in the video isn't just drinking and dancing , what's going on in that video is a metaphor for the great English class system .

.... did you include the 200000 plus people who found it was a death sentence when they got it

Or have I missed a "whoosh" moment and missed the irony

The one dancing thinking he’s getting a shag should be sacked for that jumper alone

No. It shows you they didn't care if Covid was a death sentance for some people who got it. Because in their world of entitlement they didn't believe it would be them - and they dont care about anyone else other than themselves.

Just a reminder that 2 of the people in that video have been given honours by Johnson. At least one is a prospective Tory candidate.

Neither of the honours have been rescinded/refused. The Tories still believe people who can't/wont follow national rules are fit to be MP's.

Of course it wasn't a death sentence for everyone.

The point, always, was that if not controlled, the number of serious infections would overwhelm the NHS.

The point about this video is not that the lockdowns shouldn't have happened. It's that these particular Kitsons thought they were too special to have to stick to the rules.

I haven’t got an issue with this if they had all been working together in the building that day, the issue is if some turned up from outside the group!

Yeah, and for the dancing. He looked like he was about to strangle her; or himself.

The big difference with this one is that it was at Conservative HQ, so this they can't attempt to claim that civil servants advised them it was OK.

It is surprising that it's not some form of misconduct, shows real indiscipline in that working environment.  Plenty of places were doing similar at the time but the vast majority were not.

What are these "plenty of places" that had weekly piss ups at the height of the COVID emergency?

Anyone who thinks this didn’t happen plenty of times is deluded. It doesn’t make it right, of course.

Have you been talking to Mrs Belton?
Or are you just wanting to sound threatening behind your phone?

Well, as you weren’t as rude as Iberian:

I personally know of a handful of groups of people who broke the lock down rules at some point regarding ‘gatherings’. One was my next door neighbour.
Me being an ‘ordinary’ kind of guy, If my experience is a microcosm for the rest of the UK, than that equates to an awful lot of illegal gatherings. Of course, I can’t give you a link for this information so you can ridicule the source, It’s just me having quite a good idea about human nature.

There is lots of evidence out there, if you would care to look. One source to start with could be here: https://news.npcc.police.uk/releases/update-on-coronavirus-fpns-issued-by-police-june-2021

Now these figures are only of those who were given FPNs, for example:

Participating in a gathering of more than 15 people (£800 fines)

3,440 FPNs have been processed in England under regulations requiring people not to participate in a gathering of more than 15 people. 501 processed in Wales.

God knows how many smaller, illegal parties the police didn’t attend.

Realistically, how many gatherings do you think were not attended to by the police, therefore not ‘evidenced’?

Or are you going to continue the ‘if you have no evidence, it didn’t happen’ mantra?

There are many other sources out there, some quote 180 000. It’s impossible to give an accurate figure because, quite obviously, no one is going to hold their hands up and say ‘I went to a party too’.

There are 72 million people in the UK in 28 million households. The vast majority of these stuck by the rules that the government set because they believed it was the right thing to do. And they believed the government who were telling them it was the right thing to do were doing this themselves.

A very small percentage didnt. A very small percentage of people always think rules dont apply to them and they can do as they wish. That's why we have/need prisons.

Mark Rowley, Met Police Commissioner on whether or not the Met are going to re-open the investigation into the Tory HQ Party (this isn't like re-investigating your neighbour, there are different levels of seriousness).

The same day of this Tory HQ Christmas party, Hancock was on the tv telling the public not to have Christmas gatherings/parties.

There are far more criminals out of prison than in.
The prisoners are just the ones who were caught.

And apparently, the fines were a bit of a postcode lottery. For instance, the Met charged and fined 17 times more rule breakers than the Durham force.
