Jerry Yates

This lad has turned into a decent Championship striker. 14 league goals this season in 39 league games, playing for a poor side likely to go down next weekend.

Very good move for Yates. Gone to Swansea City on 3 year deal for £2.5m.

I don’t know how true it was that his dad dragged him out of Rovers academy and took him to Rotherham because he felt our coaching staff at the time were playing him all over the place rather than direct down the middle as a central striker -

Absolutely true Branton about moving him.

In his interview on the Swansea website he says he was a donny fan, favourite players coppinger n wellens.
He also says donny released him when he was 14

I spoke to his uncle a few years ago and he said his dad had taken him out. Bear in mind he was a slip of a lad at 14 so the coaches were trying him in different positions, as they were with other youth players, as they were still developing physically etc. Anyway, he said his dad spoken to the coaches and said he wanted Jerry to be played as a striker or else....

Well, the rest is history and we can only speculate whether his dad was right to be headstrong at that time. Bear in mind Rotherham were prepared to sell him after he scored goals in a season long loan at Swindon.

Jerry does say himself that he got released rather than being pulled out

Exactly. We always have to take things with a pinch of salt when we hear things third hand. There's always two sides to a story,

Anyway whatever was in the past, he’s done really well to make a career for himself at a very decent level of football globally and score a good number of goals there. Pleased for him.

Paul Warne never really rated him.  Yates never got a proper run.  He'd get bit part appearances from the bench.  Often stuck out wide.  The final nail in the coffin was at home Vs Bielsa's Leeds. it was 1 1  with 5 mins left.  Yates came off the bench presumably just to waste time.  He was put wide deep in our half when the ball came to him.  For all the world he should've hoofed it down the line.  He tried a trick , lost the ball and they scored straight from that.

His bridges were pretty much burned from there.

A happy ending though (for us).  RUFC has a 20% sell on clause.  It's 20% of profit reportedly circa £400k
