Saturday Night Quiz
« on February 03, 2024, 07:14:05 pm by Bentley Bullet »
What has Leyton Orient got that Donny Rovers hasn't?

How have they managed to progress from a side 4 points from safety in League 2 into an unbeaten side in the last six games in League One, having won four of them, and achieved all that with such a shite manager as Richie Wellens?

The "shite manager" isn't? It is the funds for procurement that makes the difference, as several successful ex managers have now pointed out.

Maybe that's why Orient have turned a shite manager into a good one, and Rovers have a tendency to turn good managers into shite ones!

This thread prompted me have a look at Orients squad this season, without even thinking about Wellens as a manager.

Then ours

Just considering the number of players on or above 30 appearances to date (and one of ours has left)

Lots of food for thought there.

I’m not really sure what point you’re making there as I was expecting a very stark difference.

6 of their players have made 30+ appearances, and whilst it’s 5 for us some of those have made a higher number overall. Our top 10 have averaged more appearances than their top 10 so we have had some continuity in selection, although there are a couple of players in there for us who you wouldn’t think would be in the first choice 11 (Broadbent, Biggins, I’d have said Olowu but McCann has continually picked him even with Wood and Faulkner sitting on the bench).

Just struck me there's more consistency in their squad, keeping their quality players on the pitch. A more even spread of appearances. Not enough of ours ar the top end.

Now I might be talking b*llocks here, but I wonder if better players make better teams?

That's true. Plus  I wonder how many of our first choice XI feature on that top 10 appearance makers?
