Joe Ironside

Special mention for Joe last night. The number of headers he won last night and then nobody in the same post code to pick up the loose ball. He must be frustrated but never ever shows it. Great finish and what a goal line clearance in the first half. Well played.

Probably motm for me, just ahead of the full backs.
I hope Haks was the sponsors choice so they could pester his life out after the game.

I gave it to Sterry dude but Ironside was fantastic also.

There was a time we were singing the praises of Owen Bailey match after Match.
Not too many saying he is the stand out performer any more.

That is not because his performances have dipped, on the contrary imo they are even better but because of Mathew Craig along side him performing like a seasoned pro and all the other players improving so much over the last 2 months we don’t notice him so much.

This is a proper team now with the emphasis on the word TEAM.

Agree with all of that Camps, I was torn between Sterry, Maxwell, Olowu and Ironside

Last night was the best I've seen Ironside play. Immense performance.

I was so pleased to see him get his goal to reward the hard work he puts in every game

It was like watching prime Chris Brown. Absolutely immense.

Not sure how he didn't get MOM. Hakeeb has been phenomenal for us but I thought he had a rare off-night last night generally speaking. Still played a big part in the first goal and scored the second though, to be fair to him.

Joe will absolutely be in contention for player of the season.

When you stand next to him you think ‘You, a centre forward? I’d eat you alive!’

Then when he’s on that pitch battling with centre halves six inches & more taller & a couple of stone heavier & still wins 9/10 heading duels & protects the ball at his feet like an Emperor penguin guarding its egg, he’s a colossal!

He just never stops running ‘across’ that central space up front & his defensive qualities are vastly underrated.

He cleared the ball off the line twice in the same spate of action, headed the ball clear from at least two more Walsall corners, scored & had an ‘assist’ overruled by a ‘dodgy’ offside flag.

First name on the team sheet for me…every time.

I took a neutral along with me last night. A guy who was on the books  at West Ham in his younger days and around the lower leagues thereafter and he was drooling over Ironside and in particular the immense amount of work he does off the ball and in defence. As he said, ‘it’s expected but few have the attitude or engine to do it non-stop for 90 minutes’. Reckoned he’d have loved playing alongside him.

Agreed on player performances Camps.
We did give the ball away far too many times in the first half though and Craig and Adelakun were among the biggest culprits.
I would go as far as saying that Craig had his worst performance for weeks, but you could still see his class shining through.
He has a very bright future ahead of him and I would love him to be here next season.
I said on here after the Salford away game that he might be our next Herbie Kane and I haven’t seen anything since to change that opinion.

Having him back again would be brilliant but we probably need promotion to stand any chance of that being possible.

I hope Biamou is not out for much longer. With no other option, it not only puts huge pressure on Ironside to get battered for 90 minutes, but also denies us an alternative approach to an opposition.

He will be in contention yes, but for me there is only one player who fully deserves POTS and that is Mr Owen Bailey. Ive not seen him have a bad game once, he has played every single minute of the season bar 3 I think it is.
He was the only real bright spark up until  the end of Jan and has taken to league football like a duck to water. He is the type of player who doesnt necessarily stand out from the crowd but my we would definitely miss him if he wasnt in the team!

Think Haks was suffering a bit particularly first half through not having eaten/taken on fluids due to Ramadan. At least the ref stopped the game to allow him to get something onboard

Ahh, that drinks break makes sense now. It happened just at the time of sunset. Good stuff by all concerned. I've never seen that happen before.

He did the hard yards yesterday as that was the longest fast of Ramadan this year, which would have amounted to around 13-14 hours without eating or drinking.

Premier League introduced Ramadan energy breaks last season. Perhaps Football League did also.

On Ironside pretty sure Grant said in his post match that he had been carrying a knock recently maybe that’s why he had been rested, but yesterday he looked back up to full speed hopefully he can keep it up for the next 7 matches
