After a recount. Beating labour by just 98 votes. South Basildon and east Thurrock. The conservative mp there went from over 65% of the vote previously to now just 25%.

5 seats is a proper success for a party in its infancy. The story of the election.
I wonder how many seats the tories would have won had reform stepped aside (again).

So the Tories still wouldn’t have been anywhere near a majority. https://x.com/luketryl/status/1809270711619395945?s=46

Power is won from the centre.

For such a sad sad reason it’s always just a straight choice between red or blue. Not mine by the way. No one can tell me Labour are some revolutionary party that’s going to unite the country. Hate watching the gushing and back slapping on the box. Fact is, they’re seen as the least worst at this current time. I wouldn’t be surprised by the next election yet another huge swing in the another direction. The population are brow beaten. Demonstrated by the lowest turn out since 1885.We could even by then go in the same direction as France by the next election as I expect Millionaire Knight of the realm Starmer to rub a good number of folk up the wrong way. Very untrustworthy. In my opinion the system is broken and no one in politics is worth the time of day. I’m sure when they first set out they all had good intentions but they’ve all their price when big business starts pulling their strings.I know it’s a very cynical view that I have but with age and experience, and being a miserable bugger!!!, it’s an unavoidable conclusion that I’ve come to.

Do you think the Tory opposition would have been so divided, if Jeremy Corbyn was Labour leader today?I think not. That would have changed matters considerably

No one is denying anything. It’s no more astonishing than the last election where the Tory’s broke down the “red wall” with a landslide and the death knell was predicted for labour. In much the same way as it’s now predicted for the Tory’s. That was only 5 years ago. Not a generation!! Fact is, these swings will become common place because there’s no one to vote for.
I honestly think the reason the Tories broke down the red wall was because Boris Johnson made promises he could not keep and did not keep. Sunak was never comfortable with courting the red wall and always pivoted back south.

14% of the votes = 1% of seats. Smash the system.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c886pl6ldy9o
