Got a job. Striker coach at Blades. The 12 month rolling deal we had presumably means we stopped paying him back in October, so he wasn’t out of pay cheque for that long.

Absolutely. Mind you, if the previous manager to McSheffrey had been given a more competitive budget they'd both probably still be with the club now.

I agree with this. The whole appointment was obviously shambolic and he didn’t have a cat in hell’s chance of keeping us in League One with that squad, but he got them playing in an effective way in League Two, arguably outperforming. He wasn’t the right appointment at the time though and you feel for him as it knocked his career back.

Other than the Richardson years that spell has to be the most risible in living memory. “Exhaustive process” resulted in guy who already had job and despite never actually being a manager he could make up for this by having Lee Carsley on his friends and family call plan. I wonder how those conversations went.

Although he was at the end of his career I enjoyed seeing him play in the hoops.

He was between a rock & a hard place when he was offered the Rovers manager post. Turn it down & his future at the club was likely to be put under pressure by whoever was appointed in his stead (& god only knows where the board would have turned next), take it on, as he did,  & he had to hit the ground running, get the players on his side & playing for him all with a budget that we now know wasn’t adequate to say the least.

It didn’t happen for him, was never going to.

I wish him every success in the future & hope his experience with us will have made him wiser & stronger.

His appointment, we were told, was the result of him being considered better qualified than any of the regular applicants. So why were the regular applicants sub-standard? It makes you wonder whether the terms the club were offering were enough to attract the right experienced person.

Further evidence of the possibility that the club (under Blunt) was not prepared to invest in someone better qualified to succeed him either, is that Danny Schofield got the job. Again, surely they could have attracted someone better if they had really been offering a competitive rate for the job.

  In Gary's case , in being part of the team  progressing Marsh, Peck and Brewster through to the first team set up at Sheffield United, who with others coming through of good standard are slowly turning the clubs fortunes around  for little outlay as he looks to be doing a great job there, as he did here having the confidence to turn to Faulkner and guiding the start of Flints progress having him and Brown in the u18s set up as u16s.
 At least two of the first team players who were not on our books were on his radar before he left, at that time  were playing in non league and are now here, and really we have a lot to thank the guy and Tony Cook  for that is only now coming to fruition since they left for bigger clubs in Sheffield United and Peterborough.

Yeah really like GM. Had the pleasure of meeting him a few times in social situations and he just comes across as a great guy. Hope it all works out for him
