Apologies BobGIf it goes a bit microscopic on you, I’d give the Doc a call. It’ll be alright I’m sure.Perhaps I’m the only one, but a finish with ET and possible Pelanties, rather than a Barrow at home replay on a November night with 2,900 hardy souls feels somewhat very appealing. Also as a thought what attendance is required for both clubs to break even?, I would have thought a replay would probably lose us money unless 4+ thousand turn up. With all these TV deals Sky and other TV companies may dare I say it be paying us a decent wodge.

Do we still hold the record for the longest FA Cup tie v Stockport? Was it 5 matches??Was it stripping away the tradition when FA Cup ties were then limited to one replay? Whilst I'm a traditionalist, I think an element of common sense has to prevail and I can't see there are many ties in each round where replays become lucrative, when you factor in additional costs etc, as suggested above, plus a potential fixture pile up if you get through. When was the last time we earned a replay against a big club? Liverpool nearly 50 years ago? We love the romance of the FA Cup and much of that still comes from the luck of the draw. (How revenue is distributed is another question)

I think this really hits home in the 3rd when the Premiership clubs join the competition. Imagine we drew Man Utd at home & it was 0-0 after 90 minutes. Instead of us going to Old Trafford for the replay with all that such a fixture would bring to the club, gate revenue, tv monies, a trip for the fans & players to an iconic stadium, instead penalties at the eco.The only ‘people’ it’s ‘fair’ on are those at Man Utd. Unless of course we win on penalties! For the FA to have allowed this to have been brought in so that the Premiership teams didn’t have too many games to play during the season because of all the extra, mundane European football competitions that have sprung up for them to play where the ‘bigger money’ lies (because of coarse Newcastle United need that money more than Rovers) stinks. Then 4 days after last season finished ‘they all’ p**s off to America, Saudi, China & the Far East to play in numpty knock out competitions to make even more money yer playing MORE games!
To add to this, Man United pulled out of the FA cup to go on a tour of somewhere in the far east which was way out of order imo.Bob G. The game you are thinking of is the first game against Exeter, the match at OT finished 0-0 and United won the replay down there 2-0. Exeter beat us in the previous round if I remember and I was gutted when the Man U v Exeter tie was drawn.
