I thought I would mention Broadbent. He is playing really well in that position, has really continued the good form from last year.

Mccann saw it early again.

He could be worth a bob or too soon, just some more composure on those strikes from out of the box.

Maybe a broadbent song to make him feel at home.

He's certainly surprised me with his development. He's made that position his own, and rightly one of the first names on the team sheet each week, by coming on leaps and bounds.

He's still not the finished article, he's a second too slow when moving the ball forward, and as mentioned his quality and composure from outside the box isn't polished yet. I actually think these things will come with more confidence, he seems low-key and slightly shy - if he could puff out his chest and believe in himself then he'll step up again. And we can help with that with more positivity, as MPC says a song would help him know the fans are behind him now.

I think you maybe in the minority where Broadbent is concerned. His reading of the game off the ball and his ability to make great interventions to break possession up has taken him to a higher level . Every player has good days but he’s getting more consistent in his judgement and playing along side Bailey has helped .

I thought he started the season brilliantly but at PV was poor and not great again vs Rotherham. That kind of reflects the teams performances in those games also.

For me he is a big part of our defensive solidity and generally just keeps it simple now with the ball. He has improved a lot and hopefully his offensive play will continue to develop as Whiteman’s did, but he is already an important player for us.

He’s been unbelievable at the start of this season. He’s great at breaking attacks down in our half. However, he’s so good in the role mopping things up, when we are in there half, preventing counter attacks, allowing us to keep sustained periods of pressure.

He’s playing in a pivotal role in midfield in Lg1 & he’s not yet 25.

I’ve been a harsh critic since he came into the team but I have seen (at last) what clearly GM has seen in him all along albeit in snatches of games what he can bring to the team going forward.

Early days in that ‘spotlight’ of a role, but really starting to appreciate what I might be glimpsing if he continues to improve.

I have never really doubted his ability, for me a concern has always been around the silly mistakes he has made, going in for a reckless challenge, when no real need to do so etc.
He’s stepped up to L1 really well, and I think he would benefit from us starting games with a consistent midfield. It’s great to have a squad of players whereby we do rotate, however consider it would be beneficial to start games with a settled midfield, except where one of those starting has had a very poor game before. Competition for a starting place is a necessity.

If there was one weakness I have seen that he needs to work on, or the team need to learn, it would be he is not great at receiving the ball with his back to play.
It has got us into trouble a few times - not yet costing us a goal this season though, but did last year.

He has an almost robotic nature to him, like a lack of flexibility/fluid movement. Not sure how to explain it really. Not sure that’s correct or if he just needs to learn to play on the half turn - Ben Close does that very well, so he should learn from that.

He has been MOM every game he has played for me so far, I would love to know what he’s worth given the huge sums being paid for players in this league. He does look destined for a higher level at this growth rate.

I think that's a fair observation. He's not really a twister and turner. Neither was Ben Whiteman. Broadbents developing his range of passing with the occasional round the corner cute pass or the longer diagonal but, it's the pace, or the speed of thought, to deliver the accurate passes, which he's improving along with knowing when to slow it down etc.

Agree he doesn't always look the most fluid runner but as long as he does what he does well, he'll take some shifting from that position.

Broadbent has never shown signs of being a poor footballer. Just took him a long time to learn his role. Hes not all of a sudden learned how to run and pass, he had that when he got here. Being in the correct positions to sniff out danger and pick up 2nd balls always comes with time and more importantly comes when you have a core group of players who know each other.

Hard to argue with that Stocks.
I have been a fan of George all along and he is turning out to be the player I thought he had within himself.
Along with some of our other players he needs to be nurtured and kept under contract as happened with Whiteman so that if other clubs come in for them we don’t have to let them go for free.
