I'd give toytown the same as bradford.

I don’t get the limiting of the away fans. If someone thinks that we have more chance of winning if there are 1500 away fans rather than 3000, they are wrong.
Interesting discussion this one. You hear many of the top teams or individuals in Sport looking for that fine % margin to beat an opponent. You can obviously maximise your performance but out of that what can you do? I have heard many things to get the slightest advantage, watering a pitch, briefing ball boys on speed of returning the ball, making away dressing rooms cold and horrible the dark arts and even having pre match superstitions. Reducing the away support possibly gives that fine margin, less vocal encouragement, a big crowd can help change momentum, pressure the ref, get on oppositions backs and make a foul seem more than it really was with a huge reaction. Players speak of fans getting them over the line, the 12th man and so on. So the less of them the better. It was an extremely fine margin that we edged that Bradford game, and in part no matter how fine a difference the lower allocation made it was part of our successful ingredients of the day.
I think it would be done again, but only in a massively crucial game.

People talk about TV slots like it's not on TV every week anyway. Genuinely surprised sky still sell subscriptions

They sell mainly to older people like myself who don't trust firesticks.

The situation will probably change over the next 20 years or so.

Or know how to use them maybe?  ;) ;)

Yes, small gains are obviously a part of finding an edge. In this situation you can tangibly quantify a potential sporting gain vs economic cost and then work out if there is value in the decision.

Talking of Rotherham at home, does anyone recall a home game against them where we were thrashed about 0-6 but the Rovers players each received a free telly from a sponsor? Must be about 30 odd years ago?

Yeah I think it was the Rumbelows cup (league cup), though I can't remember the season, but 30 years ago seems about right.

Just looked on soccerbase and the final score was 6-2 to Rotherham back in August 1990.

The tvs were for highest score over two legs,  lost 2nd leg 2-1 for an 8-3 aggregate

If you look at the performances and results of last season's 3 big derby games against Chesterfield, Grimsby, and Bradford, the decision to give Bradford the same measly amount of tickets as they gave us was completely vindicated.

The huge Chesterfield contingent in particular really got under the skins of 1 or 2 of our players, especially Billy.

I'll bet Terry wasn't bothered about the loss of revenue when we pumped Bradford.

Interesting debate to be had on Sky and their subscribers going down (significantly) in no small part down to piracy and the fire stick man.

Raises a discussion on how much longer they can support the Premier league, and then the knock on impact to EFL clubs.

That'll be part of it but also, saturation. There's just too much football and it actually dilutes the quality of the product.

It dilutes enjoyment too. Satiation arrived a while back and it's getting worse. Greybeards may remember childhood advice that one should always leave the table wanting more. Football, and it's Sky inspired hyperbole, left that behind a while ago. They've forgotten that sooner or later there is always a price to be paid. We're  surrounded by huge examples of that right now in the fields of both politics and business. Football isn't  immune.

I agree in general throughout the league we should be giving full allocation and maximise sales.

If it gets to the nitty gritty and we arenin with a shout where we give them minimum allocation will reduce noise (like last yr) then I agree with that. I remember GM quoting an opposing manager restricting our numbers for the same reason.

But in general this year we should be giving full allocation to maximise income

Not only did we give Bradford a reduced allocation but I'm sure Gavin said in an interview we also gave them a smaller changing room.

The global rights bring in enormous money. Everyone wants to watch the Prem in the Far East in particular

In new stadiums you have to have dressing rooms the same size for both teams.
The home dressing room does have an extra warm up area though so is a few square yards bigger.  The stadium tour is well worth doing if you ever get the chance. I’ve done it about four times.

It was something to do with a game a few weeks before when the Dons were playing straight after us and the away dressing is their home dressing room. This meant the away dressing room couldn't be used so our opponents were put in the academy changing rooms and we continued this until the end of the season.
