worrying or exciting?
« on May 10, 2010, 09:18:21 pm by redbrez »
reading jr s book he seems disappointed about losing greeny and letting his contract run out, so i don't understand why we have left it till now to discuss contracts? if we loose roberts and oster and the other players don't sign we have a massive job on hand. surely we need to negotiate new contracts now for players that have only one year left or we will definitely loose them for nothing.roberts i can handle but don't want to loose oster but in sod and jr we trust,we may have to bring eight or nine players in,cant remember signing that many players?may have a new look side just hope we can play the same football. is this worrying or exciting ?i was hoping this year could be the year for a big push for a play off space, but would still settle for fourth bottom.

Remember Oster,s been on 2x6 month contracts. Who wasn,t sure us or him? Was he using us as a shop window to get his career back on track. If so he has certainly succeeded!

On good authority John's loving it here the extra responsibility that Sean has given him he's thriving in apparently enjoying this more than any other stage in his career, my guess he's got plenty of money he's now cherishing professional fulfillment rather than monetary gain.  Could be wrong wouldn't be the first time but believe me he might not get a similar role with another club.  I'll wager Oster will sign with us again

We shouldn't assume players will always want to discuss contracts earlier. Players agents will be putting feelers out way before and in Green, Wellens, Mills & Roberts case, all will have been told by the agent they can get them more than what Rovers can offer.

Discussing contracts with the likes of the above earlier would not make any difference to the outcome.

Am I the only one thinking Oster wouldn't fit in with any other side in the Championship?

I just think he has a role as a defensive midfielder who's instinct is to attack. I can't think of many other players at this level who have such vision and a brain.

Thats right, everybody is assuming Rovers have held the talks back but I have been told a rumour but how much is true I do not know,If its not true then I believe the informant will have geniunely misunderstood/misoverheard what exactly was said,But I was told An Agent with a number of players on our books is not having a good relationship with Rovers management over the last few months and has been threatening to encourage his players to move elsewhere.Whether this is linked to the players currently offered new contracts I do not know or whether it more to do with players like Guy,Heffs etc who was probably already going I do not know. But one of the players who has not resigned with us yet was defintely one of the agents players. Is there anywhere you can find which players are with which agents?I have done a bit of research on net and managed to find about 8/9 players agents but half of them are recorded as company names I.E. Pathos sports agency, base soccer agency ltd etc so not naming actual agent.

Unfortunately when you watch him he is sometimes hesitant with the ball at feet, it often develops one of two ways. That hesitancy wrong foots a man who is made to look stupid and J.O. just strolls in to empty space, or the opposition takes off his toes and we're under the cosh.

Still remember the pre-season game at home to Wolves where Oster and Copps gave the left back pure hell for 20 minutes, flicks and tricks here and there, jinking and all sorts. Then McCarthy brought George Elokobi on and Oster promptly went and played next to Wilson in the centre of the park and Coppinger decided he was going to support Gaz Roberts surging runs down our left flank instead
