EX-Grimsby Town midfielder John Oster is hoping to stay on at Doncaster in the Championship next season.

The former Everton and Wales international, 31, has proved a big hit at the Keepmoat Stadium after signing on following a successful summer trial a year ago.

And he is hoping to extend his stay in South Yorkshire in 2010/11.

Oster, who came through the Town ranks before a big-money move to Everton in 1997 and the later returned on loan, said: \"It's been a good season for me. I'm talking now with the club and hoping to sort something out. Who knows what's going to happen, I'll leave that to my agent and try and enjoy my summer as best as I can.\"

He's top priority to retain for me, closely followed by Hayter. This is very encouraging but didn't Robbo say something similar in the papers the other week? We have to wait and see.

Lose Oster and I will really be worried, we are down to the bare bones already.  Oster was in my opinion our best player last season, we need him at all costs    B)

Oster mentioned in the Yorkshire Post interview he thought it was time the club made a decision on where it wants to go. He said to go to the next level we needed to sign players like Billy & Shacks or virtually stand still.
Don't think he will be impressed with whats happened so far

Personally I feel that Copps and many other players will be thinking the same, maybe even SOD!!

Towards the end of the season we were just 2 or 3 quality players short of hitting the playoff places, now with crucial players gone, and probably more to follow, where are we now?

People on here, me included, had a go at Shackle for not showing ambition by moving to Barnsley, i'd say that DRFC are now showing the same, sure we cannot pay big bucks but to progress or even stand still we have to show that we can compete.

We are a selling club pure and simple

Losing out on Shackell must mean we have freed up some finance for other players. If Shackell was number 1 target (quite rightly) then who's moved up to No 1 2 & 3 etc ?

2. Sharp
3. Ward
4. Kennedy

I would be nice just to have a least one positive announcement just to alay our concerns.

Indeed, that will just leave us with a very shakey midfield of Copps, Stock, Wilson, Woods, Hayter, Shiels to choose from.

Oster was good last season and it would be great to sign him again. However, I'm not unduly worried if we fail to sign him. I feel another will come and add to those mentioned above.

The midfield is Seans bread and butter and it's always been very very strong IMO in his tenure. Even after the gloom of RW leaving, we were still very good.

Oster was good last season and it would be great to sign him again. However, I'm not unduly worried if we fail to sign him. I feel another will come and add to those mentioned above.

Tend to dissagree with you there Cusworth. Oster is a must for me, we would struggle to find a player of his skill & football brain without having to spend big money. I would go as far to say he was in the top 5 of midfielders in the Championship in my opinion. I would like him to sign PLUS a player like Mutch for back up.

We said the same when we lost Wellens and Sean came up trumps. I agree with Cusworth,however it would be a blow to lose him as he fits in just fine with the way we play.

Very true regarding Wellens, but to expect Sean to pull another rabbit out is unfair. Besides that, Oster is a better all round player than Wellens, my opinion of course.
