Rovers trio talk terms

Published Date: 24 May 2010

By Steve Hossack

DONCASTER Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll hopes to tie up the three remaining big name players yet to sign a new deal this week.

\"Hopefully John Oster, Mark Wilson and James Hayter will be sorted,or some way to be sorted, sometime this week,\" he told The Star.

\"You want to do the ones that you want to keep before you start bringing people in.\"

All three players played a prominent role as Rovers finished in the second highest place in the Football League in their history.

The Rovers boss lost out on left-back Gareth Roberts, who will be joining Derby County, after being unable to match the Rams two-year package, and is anxious not to lose any more of last year's squad.

He was delighted when both veteran keeper Neil Sullivan (one year) and defender Adam Lockwood (two year) put pen to new deals late last week.

\"If I just looked at Sully's age I'd probably have decided against offering him a new contract,\" said O'Driscoll.

\"But if you took his age out of the equation, and just judged him on his performances, then you couldn't argue that he didn't warrant another year.

\"Adam never lets anybody down and he is great to have around the place with his professionalism,\" said the Rovers boss.

\"He's part of the team and the squad when he's not playing due to injury and people respect him.

\"He would have had the opportunity to go play somewhere else because we would have recommended him, but we were keen to keep him.\"

Irrespective of whether Oster, Wilson and Hayter remain at the club, O'Driscoll has targeted a couple of defenders, a midfielder and striker.

He travelled out to Slovenia last week to run the rule over a striker, who he describes as a 'Mark Hughes type of player' following a recommendation.

Whether there will be any developments as a result of the trip remains to be seen.

Said O'Driscoll: \"The standard wasn't the best so you've got to consider if the player be able to step up to Championship standard.

\"If we got the chance to have a look at him in pre-season we probably would. But we wouldn't do anything on the evidence on seeing him play over there.\"

Unsure where the positives are in that as similar things were written in the YP about Roberts a few days before he signed for Derby!

No mention of Fairhurst, is he out of contract?

Just looked on DROS and it says he has been offered a new contract at the bottom of the article which details released players.  Does not state if he is out of contract or being offered an extension though.

I think Waide is in contract but has been offered an extension anyway.
