Why have foreign pundits on TV? Viera and Adeybayor are not the best english speakers. Do you rekon French TV have got Peter Beardsley on the sofa?

Adebayor's English is bizarre - it's as though he has learnt the language perfectly, but then to prove how well he knows it he has decided to speak it faster than any man has ever spoken it before.

Edgar Davids on the other hand has decided to limit the use of his language as much as is possible, limiting his analysis to a few shrugs, head shakes and scowls.

Bring back Martin O'Neill.

It obviouss they dont get paid enough or have very sad lives.

Just imagine being on £100k a week. What are ITV or BBC gonna offer that would get you remotely interested in sitting in a studio for 3 hours ? I'd rather be anywhere than sat next to Chiles or Lineker if i didnt need the money.

Adrian Chiles is trying to be Frank Skinner...and failing miserably. Have to agree about Davids too with his 'WTF am I doing here' kind of attitude.

Must be tought to find pundits these days as anyone worth listening to...Harry, Martin O'Neill etc...can't easily give up 1 month of 'pre-season' to sit in a studio in SA whilst the rest of the football world is busy signing players...just my opinion of course.

BTW looking forward to seeing the Dutch in about an hour

Does a double negative not make a positive though.

After all is Chiles is trying to be Frank Skinner and failing, surely that makes him quite good?

ESPN nicked Martin Tyler for the WC which is nice because he doesn't talk down to the audience.  They also had Klinsman on during the Germany game and he was interesting and understandable.  He was also very sympathetic towards Robert Green's situation.

Anyone wondering where Robbie Earle has gone

Quote
Football pundit Robbie Earle has been sacked by ITV for apparently selling World Cup tickets to a third party. The broadcaster said it had reviewed its entire ticket allocation after complaints from Fifa that official tickets had been used for ambush marketing in South Africa. In a statement, ITV said: \"Immediate investigations indicated that a block of ITV tickets appear to have been used for unauthorised purposes during the Holland v Denmark match.\"Further enquiries have revealed a substantial number of tickets allocated to Robbie Earle for family and friends have been passed to a third party in breach of Fifa rules.
\"As a result, Robbie Earle's contract with ITV has been terminated with immediate effect.\"

It is the second major World Cup embarrassment for ITV in just three days.During England's opening match against the USA on Saturday, a technical blunder meant fans watching its HD coverage saw a car advert instead of Steven Gerrard's opening goal. The broadcaster has since received more than 5,000 complaints about the error.

And Sky News has learned that ITV has been phoning disgruntled viewers to apologise in person.Meanwhile, Fifa has denied reports dozens of women wearing skimpy orange dresses were detained at the World Cup over an alleged ambush marketing stunt by a Dutch brewery.More than 30 female fans attended Holland's game against Denmark at Soccer City wearing the striking outfits - which were in the country's national colour and a symbol of an advertising campaign by Bavaria NV.Fifa only allows its official partners to use the World Cup for advertising and promotion campaigns - and Bavaria NV is not one of them. The dresses were sold with packs of beer in Holland in the run-up to the tournament, although they have no branding on them. The women have claimed they were ejected from the Johannesburg stadium at half-time.However, football's world governing body has insisted no arrests were made, although the women were spoken to by officials about \"clear ambush marketing\".Spokesman Nicolas Maingot said: \"There were no arrests. No one was detained.\"What seems to have happened is that there was a clear ambush marketing activity by a Dutch brewery company.\"Mr Maingot added that Fifa was now looking into \"all available legal remedies\" against Bavaria NV.Fifa strictly enforces its commercial rules - and exclusive sponsorship deals have earned it at least £980m in the four years leading up to the tournament in South Africa. The same brewery also caused a stir during the 2006 World Cup in Germany.Ahead of Holland's clash with the Ivory Coast in Stuttgart, a group of men wearing orange lederhosen displaying Bavaria NV's name tried to get into the stadium. On that occasion, the lederhosen were seized by ground staff.

FIFA, like The FA, have forgotten just whose f**king game this is.  Capitalist bas**rds.

Arent we lucky they sort out the important stuff, and not put the rights of those companies who pay millions of pounds ahead of the rights of the fans of the game?  Whoever sanctioned this Adidas Jubilani ball wants shooting.  Every match so far has been a complete let-down and the ball has to take a lot of the credit for that, but FIFA wont change it to promote better football, oh no.  That would mean they are in breach of contract with Adidas, who would sue their arses off.  Instead they blame the individual countries' FA's for not breaking their own sponsorship agreements with other kit suppliers (in our case, Mitre) so that the ball could have been used in league games.  Germany and Argentina have both used this world cup match ball in their top leagues for the past 6 months, so their players could get used to it.  IS it any wonder teams are struggling to get to grip with games?

I suppose the various comments on this, and other, threads, are why, for the very first time, I simply have no interest whstsoever in the World Cup. I've seen the odd bit, but I really ain't fussed any more. Over commercialised, over protected and over done. The world would be a better plac without it I'm sad to say. And did you see today#s news about News International bidding for the rest of BSkyB? If our wonderful new leaders let that go through, goodbye BBC, goodbye intelligence, goodbye anything at all in the interest of supporters and hello FoxTV. It's shudderingly frightening.

I hope North Korea win the damn thing.

Cheers

Great PR opportunity here for JR. Get on the blower and offer these lovelies 30 east stand tickets for the first home game.

'Doncaster Rovers Chairman and plastic surgery entrepreneur extends warm hand of friendship to Dutch nation.'

I imagine sales in that particular part of the stand would be pretty good as a result.

What game is Craig Burley watching here ??

He's screaming blue murder for a penalty to Honduras as the replay clearly shows the Chilean defender toeing the ball away from the Honduras striker

A couple of questions should be posed here:

Firstly, why was Robbie Earle given 50 tickets for quite a high profile first round game? I could understand if he was playing he might get 5 or 10, but for a second rate pundit from a third rate channel to be given 50 tickets for this game, when a huge percentage of the population of the host country can't even afford one ticket, is an absolute joke.

Secondly, Robbie Earle has lost his job as a pundit, and his ambassodorial role for the 2018 bid. What has happened to FIFA Vice President Jack Warner following his apparent $1m profit from reselling his allocation of 2006 World Cup Tickets?

Money corrupts, power corrupts. Unfortuantely FIFA have both.
