just seen the prices of individual games. what do people really think??cos i just think that it just starts to sink in that football clubs don't give a shit about the fans its just all about making money and i no people won't like what i am saying but its trueive just left college doing painting n decorating and currently due to economic malarky i have saved up from a previous job incase i don't get a job in the short term, which is looking unlikely but now i've seen the prices, and i am currently 19. 28 quid to sit and watch a football game for an hour and a half, whats the point !! all footy clubs do nowadays is rip u off from top to bottom. Whether its a football shirt which they pay peanuts for and charge 40 quid which is scandalous, or whether its merchandise like 25 quid for a polo or 65 quid for a coat or 3 quid for a matchday programme and oh yeah.... refreshments at the keepmoat thats a joke tooIts just ridiculous and football clubs think they can just charge what they like and get away with it but i tell you rovers won't even get 10,000 average next season cos people have to see the real picture and think.... do i pay for the rovers or pay my mortage??dont get me wrong i love my football, but i've decided i am going to work in a full time job and including saturdays if possible cos i don't see the point in paying 28 quid to watch the rovers and its going to put people off matches. i thought 17 quid was bad enough but 28 quid my main point is though..... football clubs don't care about how the fans feel they just do what they want and what do they give back to the fans for all their hard earned money they spend...... not all that much to be honest in the hard times. Maybe the odd autograph by the fans here and there so.... thats all im going to say rant over.
So price elasticity is far, far greater than with an everyday normal buy decision. Hence footer clubs can charge masses mnore than any sane person thinks is reasonable and still get sufficient numbers through the gates to mean their income does actually still increase. If it didn't, do you think all these clubs would be still be putting prices up and up and up after all these years?
No. don't agree Baz. Football is not a normal business. You'd be dead right if we were talking about buying a packet of soap or a bar of chocolate. But supporters of footy teams get emotionally involved. For life. So price elasticity is far, far greater than with an everyday normal buy decision. Hence footer clubs can charge masses mnore than any sane person thinks is reasonable and still get sufficient numbers through the gates to mean their income does actually still increase. If it didn't, do you think all these clubs would be still be putting prices up and up and up after all these years?Their objective is to maximise revenue. Clearly, they do. I think only Bradford City have tried a different strategy in the last 10 years or so. And even they have now backed away from that. So increasing pr4ices still works.CheersBobG
did even have a little wonder to myself last week about whether or not the world Cup debacle might just see the beginning of the bursting of this football bubble
