Typical, the one player we had on loan who i didnt think offered that much other than 1 good game,he plays the Jimmy Kelly way of playing like a crab.I knew we would sign hin as lets be honest firstly he is free and secondely he will be cheap...Lets hope i change my mind and he is better than i think.lol

If we get him I wonder if that means we're going to cash in on Stock?

We lost to Barnsley in his first game. He'd be a good signing IMO, Another solid midfielder to bring in if we have injuries like we did last season.

Well thats great news to me.I hoped he would be back.It also makes me think it was the saints playing silly buggers more than being unable to agree terms with Gillett last Jan that led to him going back to finish his contract(yes I know there was articles stating we could not agree terms, but I take alot of press with a pinch of salt just like alot of the Sharp saga).I think he is perfect for our team and gives another dimension and cover to our midfield. He is capable for great crosses and that can only be good for ANY strikers we get/have.  :)

He provided the excellent cross for Billy to score against Sheff Wed at our place last season.  His signing to me shows we will have strength in depth this season with Stock Oster or GIllette able to play the playmaker role.  i'd like to see us sign someone who can break up the play though as Woods isn't good enough to play 40 odd games at this level consistently in my opinion esp if there is no one who can push him for his place.

anyway there is nothing official yet so i'll believe it when i'm sat in him

Thats fair enough Guys,we all have different opinions on players and i am clearly in a minority here.I dont think he is good enough for this level and i personaly hope if he does sign it will be as a squad player on a 1 year deal..

No, I'm with you on this one WC, not good enough IMHO.

However, the fact that you also rated Peter Heritage, who I thought was one of the worst players ever to grace a Rovers shirt doesn't say much for one of us in the judgement of players stakes!! ;)

Quite pleased if this comes off. He waddles around looking like a pregnant duck, but he is not scared to put his foot in and he always distributes the ball well: nothing flashy, he just does the basics right.

Also what I like, is that he can be a bit cynical at times. I recall him bringing down his opponent on a few occasions when there was a dangerous break away which could have lead to a goal; something Wilson would never do. Over the course of a season it could save a point or two.

I would be stunned if the two things were interlinked.

In my opinion Gillet strengthens our midfield options, but losing Stock would make us far far weaker and one would hope that that is not the plan!

Gillet brings something extra to us in that he's tenacious and has a lot of energy. It's good to have different options and I'm pleased to hear he's likely to be joining, but please, no negative talk of Stock leaving. That would just be too stupid for words!

hahah he did,he didnt even turn pro till his late twentys but he was truly awfull, couldnt trap a bag of cement.lol Strangely after one season with us he never played football again, although some would say he didn't play much whilst he was here.lol
There used to be a bloke stood next to me and me dad who used to shout\"come on the commander\"everytime we got a corner, all to no avail of course.I think he played here in 1991'ish but cant be sure
That said he is still my hero.lol....

The Wing Commander played 25 games (and 6 sub appearances) in the 1992/93 season. He retired after he left us which meant his entire pro career lasted 4 years

The Heritage/Mike Jeffrey partnership looked like it would be very productive in preseason.  The pair of them hit it off - remember the Newcastle and Notts County friendlies?

I bumped into Mike and Peter after the Notts County game, dressed smartly in their Rovers blazers.  I was falling out the Olde Castle in a very merry state.  Of course, I congratulated them.

If the price was right, I wouldn't be that concerned, as long as Sean was given the money to reinvest. Don't get me wrong, Stock it a fantastic player, but last season proved we can live without him considering he featured in only 15 league games. It's his ongoing injury problems that bother me and I think we should think about letting them be someone else's problem. Gillett would be an ideal replacement for me if this is what Sean is thinking too.
