PS3 not playing blu ray films
« on August 08, 2010, 09:11:32 pm by DaveDRFC »
Got an issue with my ps3 and just wondering if anyone on here can help?

It's a 250gb slimline one, had it since Christmas so still in warranty. I put The Shawshank Redemption in and it wouldn't load up, just made some funny noises at me. I then tried Gladiator, same thing happened. Basically ended up going through all my blu rays (a whole 10!) and only 2 of them worked in the ps3, but all of them work in my proper blu ray player upstairs. I have tried looking online to find a solution to no avail, can anyone help? I personally suspect Sony have buggered something up with one of their endless system updates. Games work fine but that's not much good when I want to watch a film!

I read an article (can't remember for the life of me where) that not all Blu Ray films are compatable with the PS3, especially new releases.

I've not got masses of Blu Ray films - probably 10 or 12, but they all load on the PS3. If 8 of 10 of yours don't load I'd say that it's more than a good sign something is wrong. I'd be taking it back/speaking to Sony.

I don't remember ever having a problem before, I rang Sony today and they said that something might be corrupt so I need to do a full system restore which takes about 15 hours! Set it off earlier on this afternoon and hopefully it will be done by the time I get home from work in the morning. I'm not confident it will work as it seems more hardware than software related to me but its worth a go before I try to get a new one out of them!
