Brought up in St.Mary's Rd. Wheatley, I know the lady who currently owns the house. Jeez she was a good looking lass.

Leslie G. was in the year above me at school, I could hear her screeching out her opera during the lunch break.
Lovely lass though and worked really hard to get the success she deserved.

No idea.
I'll guess at Thomas Crapper.

Inventor of the flushing bog, and apparently the origination of the word \"crap\"

This town has been a very productive area in terms of the Arts, Sport and Mathematics/Science. I'm surprised we have produced so many folk who have gone on to be either the best or one of the best in their chosen fields..........or should I be.

Castor oil used to be in abundance on the bed of the river Don. Early settlers used to bottle it to sell to travellers visiting the town. Many locals became addicted to the stuff so much so that there was an epidemic of Castor oil poisoning.
A local eminent physician dedicated himself to the cause and persuaded the council to build premises to treat the effected people.

Soon after the 'Don Castor oil' infirmary was born.

Aye - maybe not a product of Donny in the strictest sense then - but his major inspiration came during a walk on the Town Fields when he was a teacher in Doncaster

*what about COAL !!!!!!!
not popular since 1984 but it powered an industrial revolution, an empire and got us through two world wars.

and the BENTLEY SMELL the aroma of de Mulders animal glue factory.

and who can forget the contribution to popular music of JIVE BUNNY? or to put it another way, who can remember it?

good to see the mention of GRO-BAG, a woman where i used to work was called this. she always had Pete inside her.

finally on a more educated note, good to see the word Danensian used by Dutch Uncle. i am one, is he too i wonder?

Only an adopted Danensian I'm afraid

Born in Swansea of one Yorkshire and one Welsh parent and moved to Donny aged 5(and Holland aged 23)

But I am an 'Old Danensian' in that I went to Doncaster Grammar School when it was still called that - and I am indisputably Old
