Hmmm...would this impact upon the SMC, and would it therefore pressure the council into looking to sell the stadium as a way of reducing jobs by abolishing the SMC..?

Some of the jobs actually are likely to be within the stadium apparently.  Don't you think this could all be saved by shelling assets like the stadium that don't really make any money for the town.  Surely it's bette off having the stadium as part of the club?  But then who pays for that and what price?

I've been doing my favorite thing this afternoon, reading the thoughts of the Daily Mail readers..God almighty they are vile bas**rds....(even tho Stace constantly tells me I shouldn't cos they make me want to run amok with my cleaver.)

I find the general attitude of Middle England, that hundreds of thousands of people are going to lose their jobs is something to celebrate deeply abhorrent. At the end of the day these are people with families now looking at an incredibly bleak future..

And to see pictures of the millionaires club clustered round Osbourne patting him on the back made me want to vomit.

I do the same, It makes me feel better about myself to read these horrific near Facists, who make themselves sound more ridiculous with every word.

Oh and Osbourne is scum this government is proving itself to care even less about the working classes than most other Conservative government. I hope Nick Clegg is enjoying this brief bit of power he has, because after the next election I would be very surprised if he was re elected.

An interesting take on things - when jobs are hard to come by \"natural wastage\" isn't usually quite as simple to deal with as when times are good.

In the last 12 months I've been TUPE'd (I know it's not a verb), \"At Risk\" (twice) and involved in \"Consultation\" three times and it is difficult.

Some people will take the chance to retire early (on a 60ths pension) but many will find their lives changed for the worse (a few will probably be lucky enough to get a few thou. redundancy and find similar work in the private sector).
Please don't assume that 800 job losses (in the beginning) will be a welcome change for these families - it will be a stressful time.

The architects section at my place of work has been told out of 15 blokes 9 will be going.  There is a redundancy matrix, and one chap with 21 years service in will receive just 19 weeks redundancy pay.

Very worrying times.

Worse than that ... a week's pay equates to £380 (max.)
 19 x £380 = £7220. If Consultation starts immediately that's just over £7k to take away somewhere near the end of January ..... just shit!

Also stated on Radio Sheffield this morning that the Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce have estimated that 82,000 jobs could go across the region in the private sector as a result of the cutbacks. Basically as a result of them no longer being required to supply goods and services to the public sector!

If this had have happened 15 year ago I'd have f**ked this country right off!  Any of the younger element, my own lad included should be looking abroad!

Ah - the abolition of Bras .... Mmmm - Although there'll be some ladies out there with bruised knees!

I have (from time to time) considered fleeing to pastures abroad, but the trouble is it takes quite a lot of time to establish where the greener grass is. Canada always appealed to me. Spain & France may be OK to retire to, but I wouldn't want to work there (no logical thought process - just don't know how I'd fit in). New Zealand seems popular, but them earthquakes are a bit scary. The main places that seem to be able to give me the opportunity for gainful employment are in the Middle East, but Saudi, Egypt & UAE don't really appeal to my good lady wife.

I agree - it is certainly (for the younger folks) worth investigating, however the little bas**rds had better be careful because when I get to 66, or 67, or 70 I will need lots of young people to be working to keep me in an adequate state pension  :dry:

Sorry - Back on topic: I'm sure that the Chamber of Commerce have good reason for believing that the impact of reduction of contacts via the Public Sector will cause supply chain issues in the Private, just as they will hope that some of the stuff that won't be done with public funding can be picked up privately but I'm always concerned about big numbers being bandied about - it's the same in reverse when these people create a big new Industrial Park or a Power Station and tell us how many jobs that they are projected to create - we hear things like \"This has the potential to create 2000 jobs\" but they never come back a few years later and say \"See we told you so\" because they are usually a touch optimistic - hence, by using reverse logic, I hope the YCofC are being over pessimistic.

I agree to a point.

Our lass works for Doncaster Council, the centre she works at has to lose 10% of its workforce. That is being achieved by simply not filling the 3 vacancies that have been open/ advertised for 4 MONTHS.
