O/T Ryanair Flights
« on January 10, 2011, 04:07:53 pm by grayx »
Has anyone had recent experience of flying with Ryanair?
I need to book some flights soon & have noticed that Ryanair now fly from Donny & are considerably cheaper than other airlines HOWEVER, some of their reviews are worrying. Any advice would be welcome.

No better/worse than any others to be fair.

Presumably you're just doing 1 leg; rather than having to make connections?

Personally, I don't like all the add-on's when you pay for luggage, check-in etc; so what you think is cheap, actually turns up to be something only slightly lower than the normal operators; but that's the name of the game...

Book with low expectations, that way you won't be disappointed.

Expect to crash, then be pleased when/if you don't. In my experience they're a bit of a rip off.

They NOW fly from Donny?
They've flown from Donny since the airport opened.

They have done an excellent job of squeezing and excitement and enjoyment out of air travel. Every stage of the process is a chore, from the check-in queues, to the need to carefully check the last ounce of your baggage weight, to the vomit-inducing colour scheme on the aircraft. If there's a problem with the baggage handling staff at the airport, Ryanair always seems to be the airline to be served last - maybe because they pay so little in airport charges. I was once waiting 2 hours at Standsted for my luggage after a Ryanair flight - longer than the flight itself.

They are cheap if you don't want all the bells and whistles, like pre-booked seats or checked in luggage. And watch out for the massive credit card booking fees slapped on at the end of the booking process. Added an extra £100 onto the bill the last time I used them.

Easyjet is a far less painful way to fly in my experience. But give Ryanair their due - they do fly to many places that other companies can't/won't/don't. So, if you're prepared to exchange a reasonably grim 3 or 4 hours for the convenience of flying to and from where you want to fly, then go for it. As I say, I do use them quite a lot when there are few other alternatives for the route that I want and I've never had an out and out disaster - just the feeling that flying used to be quite fun and now they've made it a right f**king chore.

If you're flying from Donny with Ryanair you'll only be going to Alicante, Faro or Teneriffe

Correct, Tenerife. Siding towards paying a bit more & flying with Jet2 from Leeds. Used them a few times without problems.

Go with Jet2. You'll only be disappointed with Ryanair.

I used Ryanair for my stag do in Benidorm (flew to Alicante) and can't complain at all. We went for a long weekend so took hand luggage only, did online check-in so no queues at the airport and the unallocated seating allowed us to grab a decent position all together on the plane. Don't get me wrong, it was all very basic and I wouldn't go long haul with 'em but in effect it's an airborne bus service so three hours travel without creature comforts is no big deal.

What I liked about Ryanair is the race for the best seats when you are allowed to board - great fun watching people race for them!  :)

Ryanair can fcuk right off! Anyone who seriously considers charging to use the crapper shouldn't be allowed an operators licence! Must have been a flash of inspiration around the boardroom that day when the plans were announced! If I'd have been Chairman, whoever proposed it would have been told to clear their desk with immediate effect!!
