Size of teams in this league?
« on July 19, 2011, 07:59:24 pm by swain_drfc »
Not sure if anyone else visits the championship football forum but there was a topic posted about 2 weeks ago on there to do with club sizes now this is what the admin said was the official list for this season in terms of club stature.

1.Leeds United
2. West Ham United
3.Nottingham Forest
4. Birmingham City
5. Ipswich Town
6. Derby County
7. Coventry City
8.Southampton
9.Leicester City
10. Cardiff City
11.MIddlesbrough
12.Bristol City
13.Crystal Palace
14.Brighton
15.Barnsley
16.Portsmouth
17.Millwall
18. Reading
19.Watford
20.Hull
21.Burnley
22.Blackpool
23.Peterborough
24.Doncaster

Now as you can see we are placed bottom. Only briefly read through it but god bless the Peterborough fan who actually admitted himself he didn't think they was bigger than Doncaster Rovers. The reply he got from the admin was that Peterborough were historically third division where as we were historically non league.
Now I have been going to Rovers for about 14 years so won't have the best knowledge as some people on here but I really didn't think we were historically non league apart from our 5 years spell there from 98 to 2003. What are peoples thoughts on this and also on the order of stature that the admin of that forum has finalised.

Dingles have won the FA Cup and have been mainly 2nd. tier as much as it pains me.......Reading haven't.

I would doubt they'd come higher than Hull City, who've been 2nd tier for the vast proportion of the last 50 years.  Barnsley haven't.

Wikipedia...............

Barnsley have spent more seasons in the second tier of English football than any other club in history[2] and have produced some notable talents over the years who have gone on to be successful at other clubs.
Presumably Hull have been top tier for most of their history then ??

The original poster is literally just a wind-up merchant who was banned off that forum before. Total nonsense and I don't find anybody actually agreeing with him from any club over at TFF.

Utter bobbins the lot of it.

Forest have won the First Division twice, the FA Cup twice and the European Cup twice (as in actually won it, with people seeing them do it on telly and everything) West Ham have amd probably will have bigger crowds than the rest of the Championship, Derby have won the First Division twice, Ipswich once etc etc.....

I guess that 'history' here refers to the past 10 years as the two most 'historically' succesful teams would surely be Blackpool & Burnley?

Aye, and Leeds wouldnt be anywhere near the top.

Unless its a table for how hated teams are?  I might well believe it then.

If you are talking avarege league position over history then probably not far off us being at the bottom however would also question Leeds being at the top.

Will make it much more sweeter then when we punch above our weight !!

Don't we have the smallest wage bill in the division? If we do then we can't argue if we are bottom of this pointless table that only exists for trivial matters anyway. I don't know why people have got their thongs twisted in their fanny over this. It means nowt.
