Whatever his personal reasons are (and I don`t know them) it`s not appropriate to post them on a public forum, be it the truth or speculation, thats why they are personal! for that reason i`m going to edit your post!

************************** I'd be surprised if he went to Southampton, as he doesn't want to move from the North.

EDIT! For the same reasons outlined to Donnyjim, personal issues should remain personal issues until such time as the individual chooses to make them public, and for your information I do NOT know if what you said or not is true. Just respect the lads privacy!

I don't think it's anyone's business. if he's unavailable for personal reasons that's all we need to know.

In theory, of course, you are right, but to an extent he is in the public eye and therefore people will want to know.

Replace \"Billy Sharp\" with \"Wayne Rooney\" and you'll see what I'm getting at.

And before you ask, I personally do not feel the need to know- but others will.

TRB I see exactly what you're saying.  I think it's a bit different when Rooney etc flaunt their lives in public, but when they keep them quiet as Sharp etc does, I don't think it's any of anyones business.

Seems to be far too much mischief going on at the moment, I heard everything from family issues, to illness, to being at Ipswich (they weren't even at home) to having refused to ever play for the manager again.  That kind of stuff is mischevious and helps nobody.  If the lad's got personal problems let's hope he'll be feeling the love again from the 10,000 Doncaster people who love him to bits.....

I aint interested in what has gone off with him. It's his reasons and should not be put out there. My only question is will he be playing tomorrow night?

... and will he bang a hat-trick in too :P

I'm sure most people would still be expected to turn up for work no matter what family problems they had.

That's true... although compassionate leave is granted at managers discression.

End of the day I dunno what his circumstances are but I assume it must be bad for Billy to miss a game. Let's wish him the best and hope he returns swiftly :scarf:

Bullshit mate. Family problems covers all sorts of things, but if the more serious things happen, no way would 99% of employers expect you to work.

I owe a big apology, my source was wrong about the transfer request, it is for family reasons, once again sorry.

No a small family business who would insist it was taken as annual leave.

I think you`ll find they are breaking employment law if the insist you take annual leave, what happens if you`ve used up all your annual leave, they are obliged to let you take unpaid leave!

In many cases you have the right to take time off work to deal with an emergency involving someone who depends on you (sometimes called compassionate leave). You can’t be penalised by your employer for taking the time off, providing your reasons for taking it are genuine.

Some people on here are gonna look utter and total brainless, tactless arseholes if the reason for Billys absence ever comes to light, and  I guess he probably wouldnt want to represent most of them again.

In which case as Billy will have used his leave in the summer I hope he isn't being paid in his absence. I don't remember Stocky not playing with his family emergency last season.

Or to add to that they could be a compassionate employer and continue to pay him, unlike your Victorian-esqe employer
