I'm a 38 year old man and I have just burst into tears after reading the Billy's message on the O/S, I can't even begin to imagine how they feel right now. Tragic upsetting news.

Absolutely horrible.

We lost our first at only two days old....7 years, 3 months and 4 days ago at 11:27 am (it kinda sticks in your brain).

He's a stronger man than me to lead 'em out tonight...I was in pieces for weeks on end.

May just shed a few tears tonight...dont think I'll be able to help it. :(

Just shows you how much some of these posters on here know doesn't it!!

Terrible news. Poor bloke, I don't blame him for not playing for the rest of the year if he chooses.

Still, I think a minutes clapping would be a bit wrong, seeing as it's not really anyone associated with the club and that when some supporters family members die there is not any clapping. And anyway, the clapping is supposed to be spontaneous isn't it, not forced?

But, what awful news for anyone. Poor family, I hope they find their peace as soon as possible.

I'm genuinely upset after reading about Billy and Jade's awful loss.  Some things that happen in this world are just plain wrong.

It is simply the worst thing that can happen to any parent and there is no easy way through.  I just hope Billy and Jade find the right way for them.

My heart goes out to them.

I totally agree, genuinely upset by this today, so so sad. I too think a minutes silence would be more fitting for what is more of a sad occasion rather than a celebration, but if Billy and his family feel that a minutes applause at the match tonight will help them through this time then I'm sure no Rovers fan would begrudge them that.

I lost my daughter in March 2009. At least I got to see her grow up and have some happiness. Unlike Billy. There's not an hour goes by without me thinking of her. It's a life sentence.   I imagine it will be the same for him so my heart goes out to Billy and his family.

I am sat here in floods.  I cannot imagine how they must feel and nor can I imagine how he can get back on a footie pitch any time soon.  It really puts everything into perspective.  For all that we are passionate about our club and players, this is the time we all close ranks and support one of our own.  The footie comes second today.

I wasnt comming tonight until i heard this tragic news.Dont know if Billy is religious .Cant imagine he is feeling like there is a God right now and how to justify this loss or make any sense out of it.And i am not qualified to try.But just in case there is a divine power out there and the power of prayer is what the converted say it is can we all say a little prayer to help the little one and Billy in his time of need. Can you imagine 8000 plus prayers going up in silence while  we are applauding it must be equivilent of a 1000 masses and might be a source of comfort to Billy and his family.Hope this thread has not caused offence to anyone as it is meant with the upmost respect.

Today had been a fantastic day till hearing this news. Can't stop thinking about how i'd feel if this happened to any of my 3. Thoughts with you Billy.

Oh and what is done with this minute (silence or clapping) is totally down to Billy and is not really open for debate on here. Respect his wishes.

Football is insignificant at times like this. Out little lad just turned one a week ago today.  We tried for five years before we got pregnant and he's the most precious thing in the world to us.  I'm genuinely sad for Billy and his family's loss.  A horrible, horrible thing to happen to anyone, let alone one of our own heroes.

Let's hope the club, the VSC and us as supporters can help Billy through this devastating time.

Bless them all.

In my time goin to watch the Rovers Billy is my all time favourite player for his talent and attitude towards the game. This night has gone from being a night where I was hoping we would show signs of our season turning around to who cares what happens. Lets give Billy and his family all the very best of our support tonight. I never thought I would ever go toa Rovers game and not really care about the outcome.
