Xbox 360 hard drives
« on December 21, 2011, 05:17:03 pm by RedJ »
we've recently bought a 4GB console, and I've bought a 20GB hard drive - can anyone explain in layman's terms what exactly it is that I need to do to use the hard drive I bought?

The video is for the old 360, by the sounds of it you have bought a 4gb NEW VERSION of the Xbox 360 which is either 4gb or 250gb I believe. If that is the case then I had a similar problem earlier this year and it turns out you can't upgrade your hard drive without taking the thing to pieces. I ended up using a USB hard drive.

Obviously if it is the old Xbox 360 then that video should show you the trick.

it's the new one Frosty - that'll be fun telling the lad then...

Another thing - have any of you ever had issues with FIFA 12? it works fine single player, but every time we play online, it randomly comes up with a message saying the disc is unreadable - anything I can do about that? the disc is brand new (only came today).. but would it be worth a (5th) clean anyway?

Sounds like the laser needs \"lifting\" abit Its not actually that complicated just sort of  a case adjusting a couple of screws and getting it right depending on the drive thats fitted. ( they fitted a couple of different ones) I have tried it myself and stuffed it right up. I'm sure Coolspot down Donny would be able to do it easily without charging a fortune.
Try googling \"lifting x box laser\" and see if you feel confident enough

We are on my lads 2nd xbox and took an extended warranty out on it....its been back twice in the last 3 years for exactly the same thing, if you ignore it the cahnces are it'll get worse and worse

You`ll probably find one loitering about between Town Fields and the Hospital, especially this time of night, is that what they do in between punters, xbox repairs? ;)

Don't see why not, lots of independent computer shops will do x boxes as well,  it may be a case of \"its just easier to change the drive\"

My lads started off with the odd game and then just got worse and worse,
The last time we sent it off it was just a couple of games it did it on but we only had a month left on the extended warranty..so off it damn well went

FIFA 12 online

I've given it a wipe (with some disc cleaner this time) and it's absolutely fine on Ultimate Team and on single player, it's just when I play online with the normal teams that it goes wrong.. and I can't for the life of me work out why.

good ideas, but if it's a brand new xbox, fiddling with it will void the warranty on it. So xbox won't fix it for free in the future if anything happens...

Is your internet speed something like?  Is it wired to the net or are you connecting wirelessly. Wireless can sometimes be a pain, I ended up buying a 30 metre ethernet cable for about 3 quid  from these

 http://www.safekom.com/prd.aspx?cat_name=Network_Product&subcat_name=Cat5E_Cables

they are on ebay but I've had a few bits direct and never had a problem, cable does its job

mind you the wife was realy happy when I started running it from the router downstairs to his bedroom

I've had enough of 1-1.5 m speeds (how I used to cope on dial up gawd knows)

If you are in South Yorkshire have a look http://origin-broadband.co.uk/  see if they can get you connected via the SYDR fttc, really helpfull they are and a local small firm.
I'm just waiting for BT to do there bit to release the line

Is there any particular reason you chose the 4GB Xbox over the 250GB one - money wise its aonly about £30.00 - £40.00 at the moment??

TBH Im struggling to find a better XBox deal than this one at the moment.....

TWD - Cos my mate got it brand new with a TV and he was selling it cheap (I saw him pick it from the shop, so no hints of it \"falling off the back of a truck\").

We were looking at that one, but for £70 new - still in the box, unopened - you can't say no (as far as I can see anyway).

Yeah, I'm connecting wirelessly Daggers, good speed too - very rarely lags online.

Another thing - have any of you ever had issues with FIFA 12? it works fine single player, but every time we play online, it randomly comes up with a message saying the disc is unreadable - anything I can do about that? the disc is brand new (only came today).. but would it be worth a (5th) clean anyway?

Frosty?? The cheek!!!

I have had this problem many times with different games in the past, you need to find out whether the fault lies with your Xbox or your game:

1) Insert Fifa 12 into the Xbox

2) Under the games tab (on the new look dashboard) select My Games,

3) Select Fifa 12, you will get 3 options, Play, Install and Rate. Click Install.

This will install the game onto your hard drive so no disc is required to play, the only problem is you have a 4gb Hard Drive and a game like fifa is about 6 gb. I would recommend that you ask a freind who has a 360 to install it on their Xbox (possible someone with an old one and lost of memory), if the disc is faulty it won't install, your Xbox will tell you at around 50-80% that the disc is scratched or dirty.

If it does install sucessfully then they would try playing it online, but EA use that stupid 'pass code'. Which of course means if it does install they still won't be able to play online.

I would still try installing it on an Xbox and if the disc has a fault (which sometimes can be unseen by the naked eye, try a magnifying glass or a UV light) it won't install 95% of the time.

Sorry but that is all I know, good luck...

Just had a bash at this (Christ alone knows why my mate was up this late) - turns out it's the disc. Also, just to confirm it was the disc, we had a look, and there're two very faint circles about half way out into the silvery bit. Back you go..

cheers lads
