I see one or two of you on here was born at western hospital.Funnily enough when i left school in 1959 i started work as an apprentice electrician at Western Hospital for the then Doncaster Hospital Management Committee and one of my first jobs was assisting in the conversion of rooms into labour wards as in the 1940s the building on the drawings was listed as Lunacy Wards (no offence intended).
The front part of the hospital housed a lot of the inmates from the former workhouse such as tramps etc who had no fixed abode and the rest of the hospital was general surgery, medical wards etc. It certainly opened my eyes and there were a lot of characters who both worked and lived there. The hospital was located on Springwell Lane in Balby , just passed the bottom of Warde Ave.In particular the part three accommodation as it was named (former workouse inmates)was very grim to say the least and i can assure you if you think youre having it rough now it is nothing to what they had to endure Mind you on the plus side at least they got 3 meals per day, unlke when they were travelling the roads.
Sorry if i have bored a few of you with the history lesson but at least it gives a bit of insight to the ones who were born there.
Finally getting back to the subject ,i have lived in Wadworth since 1971 and up to then lived on Tickhill Road in Balby and have supported the Rovers since the early 50s when my dad took me along.

Fascinating league format! Essentially the same as the SPL without the other teams!
