BobG:
That's quite a span of time covered there Sproty.  There's 10 years between Austerlitz in 1805 and Waterloo in 1815. Where did our local entrepreneur store the bones of the 36,000 dead Russians and Austrians, and p'raps the 9,000 French dead too, while he was waiting for Leipzig and Waterloo? :):)

Cracking story that Sproty. I've never heard it before. I'm grateful you mentioned it. Whoever that bloke was, he was he must have had a good agent out there in foreign land.

Although they took all their teeth out first (in fact they took all their teeth out before they buried them - maybe even before they were dead in some cases!)

Nice piece on it here:

Thanks for posting that Wilts,a very interesting but macabre read.

Did you spot this?!

Doncaster - "one of the largest agricultural markets..."

Before the rise of the industrial north Donny was one of the most sought after residential areas in the whole of the north. Just look at the number of stately homes dotted around the outskirts of the town. It was a wealthy agricultural paradise and a lot of very rich people lived round and about. Then came coal and rail and steel and industry!
