Scott Mathieson - Ipswich Town 28/04/2012

Our referee for the final game of the season is our old pal "little" Scott Mathieson, ably assisted by David Benton and Matthew Bristow.

Ref Fact:  Scott Mathieson is the only League referee who allows the wall to stand 5 yards away from the kicker due to his little legs and the "10 paces" rule of thumb.

I suspect he wont get too much more.

Beany will be thrilled.  Mathieson and Andy Penn are his two "favourites".

I gave him a 1, he was typically poor  and got some big calls wrong. Possible red card for Martin's foul on Husband, after seeing TFLS I'm not convinced the foul on Scotland is in the box, and make your own mind up about Stevenson's goal but the linesman gave it in fairness to Scotty M. I was inclined to agree after initial viewing on that one too.

A two. Never been very keen on him, ever since his dismissal of Mark Hume at Rushden (although he did miss Sutherland's assault on a Rushden player later on). The Martin tackle on Husband was a straight red any day of the week. It was late, lunging and with excessive force. I don't think Martin meant to "do" Husband and it was genuinely mistimed but that's not the sort of thing the ref has to consider these days.

As for the goal- I thought it was a good foot over in real time. The lino was quite slow to flag and for a moment I thought he was flagging for Chopra being offside when he put the rebound in. I think the goal was a correct decision, unfortunately.

2 from me

As always seems to be the case this bloke starts off ok and then goes downhill as the game unfolds

The assault on Husband would get a Red 99 times out of a hundred and I guess what saved him was "end of season mentality" from the Ref - which probably also saved him a second yellow for the trip on Copps as well

Credit to Lino for spotting that the ball went over the line - at least it looked it to me initially and seemed to be over on FLS BUT lets hope we dont have to "wonder" about goals in the future when we FINALLY get Goal line Tech

Penalty ? Foul was initially just outside box (only just) but we cant expect this Ref to be able to spot that.

He got a 2 from me too.  I thought Beye left the leg out and Scotland made the most of it, and having seen it on the FLS this morning it was clearly outside the box.  Little Scotty fell for it twice over.

Having said that, I gave the bald linesman the hairdryer treatment for most of the game for the 2nd goal which from my vantage point looked nowhere near over, but clearly was on the telly.  Sorry, you bald chuff.

Chopra was claiming to goal as they were running back for the restart, he was in the refs ear all the way, so in Chopra`s eyes the ball never crossed the line (which it clearly did) and he was claiming the rebound, in which case it was offside and the goal should n`t count  ;)

1 From me, for blatant lack of protection of our 18 year old left back who was completely nailed because he was dominating against a guy who once played for Man Utd.

1 from me too. Martin may have slipped when fouling Husband but the intent was clear and he was extremely late. He then got off scot free for tripping Copps when Friend got booked for an identical challenge 90 seconds later. That, and he's always been your typical midget-sized ref with a Napoleon complex.

Haha, that was me, didn't see him do much wrong really, thought he got the card right for the challenge on Husband and as for folk going crazy at where the ball was being placed for corners, well they need to go look up the rules. Couldn't tell about the penalty from my vantage point in the SS but maybe I should take a point away for that if as it seems he got it wrong. All in all though I like refs who go pretty unnoticed in games so I thought he was decent.

He gets a 0 every time for me, despite his performance.

Cost us the game at Nene Park that evening and I will NEVER forgive him for costing us a day out at Elland Road.

I just can't let it lie.

Elland Road, the most overrated football ground in the country!! What an absolute shithole the place is! I'm glad we wont have to go there ever again.
