Luke McCormick

I noticed that Swindon have confirmed they will be taking him on trial upon his release from prison, was a decent goalkeeper for Plymouth if i'm not mistaken?

If our club announced we was taking him on a trial what would your thoughts be?

I was just coming here to post the same thing!

He was a good goalkeeper in the league above once upon a time, if he still has the ability now then I would class that as a good signing for whoever he joins and I think if he signed for us at any stage I'd be pleased with it.

He's going to get such abuse from the stands mind, and doesn't play in the best position to avoid it.

People's opinions on him will probably range in extremeness (pretty sure i'm just making words up tonight).

Yeah i'm pretty shocked that he's wanting to get back into football tbh, he was really cut up about the whole thing so i can't imagine he'll take to the abuse to well, would have thought he'd want to live a very low profiled life after his release but clearly not.

When did he get sent down? Doesn't seem that long ago that it happened.

Four years I believe, given a 7yr4mnth sentence so makes sense. Maybe in that time he has come to terms with what he's done and feels able to live with the negative reactions now. We shall have to see.

Ahh yeah thats right, i remember disagreeing with the sentence being that short!! Just googled a bit more about him, saqw a newpaper article that his family's parents weren't happy with the sentence either (understandable), will be interesting to hear their comments (which they will no doubt, publicly have) when he does get back into pro football.

I'm sure he's not as big a tosspot as Lee Hughes though (who has shown no remorse whatsoever) and won't dance like a retarded orangutan when his team scores a goal!

It's a big no from me. I like our club to have players we can respect.

Arguably a tougher proposition than most of our centre backs over the past two season.

Tony Coleman had a spell inside before we signed him as well.  :scarf:

Hmmm.

This is the bloke who got in his Range Rover at 4 am one day, pissed out of his head and careered into a car on the M6 killing a bloke and his two young sons.

He may have paid his dues according to the justice system.

I just wouldn't want him playing for my club.

A disgraceful, unresearched and totaly incorrect post - I direct you to read Adrian Chiles, We Dont Know What We're Doing', where he interviews Hughes in prison, and the very few interviews Hughes has given on the subject such as this
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/o/oldham_athletic/6967063.stm
and you claim to know about football! If you are going to abuse people at least get the facts about them correct. Lets hope you never decide to become a journalist.....

The stupid dance, and the goading of opposition supporters when they are chanting about him, show to me that he really doesn't give a toss.

Unlike McCormick, Hughes fled the scene after his crash, waited for the drink to leave his system before handing himself in (only because he'd have been caught anyway). The only thing Lee hughes seems sorry for is the fact he got caught.

If Lee Hughes actually showed a bit of maturity on the football pitch, i'd maybe be able to believe that he's genuinly remorseful. He clearly can't do that though.

Upon his release Hughes made a public apology and confirmed that during his time in prison he met the daughter of Douglas Graham. Hughes stated, "In going some way to facing my responsibilities, I have met with a relative of the man who died and what was said will always remain a private and personal matter. For different reasons I think we were both pleased that the meeting occurred. I made mistakes and decisions that will live with me for the rest of my life. It also greatly affected my immediate family, including my wife and children."

Hughes also insisted he was determined to carry out community work to help others avoid the mistakes he made saying "Whilst it is not part of my contract it has always been my intention to do community work centred on the mistakes I have made, in the hope that it can go some way to preventing another tragedy occurring."

While in prison Hughes helped to organise a charity football match which raised £5,000 for a children's hospice. A fellow prisoner told a newspaper that Hughes had set up the match to give something back to the community saying, "He's trying desperately hard to redeem himself. He is heartbroken"

Of his wikipedia page - your self-opiniated, arrogant drivel on every topic makes you out to be exactly the type of person you think you are castigating - you need a bigger mirror matey, have a look in it.

Hughes reacts like quite a few terrace hate figures do - Diouf a notable one - who will do his utmost to show he is not adversely affected by their chanting. And that works as far as I'm concerned, Hughes simply channels the vitriol and uses it to spur himself on.

How he actually feels about his actions are not reflected in this, you don't know the man or how he feels so don't comment in a manner in which you act like you do.

If you remember our first season in the championship, David Norris of Ipswich had made a gesture of support to McCormick (whom he'd played with at Plymouth) by crossing his wrists like a set of handcuffs when he scored.

The following week we played Ipswich at home and Norris was roundly booed everytime he got the ball. We won 1 nil by virtue of a Shelton Martis goal( on loan to us at the time). If I remember rightly the match was live on Sky 5.20 on a Saturday in November.

It was indeed, I remember that the fans booing was shown up when Moritz Volz came over to our side to take a throw-in and got booed because people thought he was Norris.

You are correct. That was the day I met my dad for the first time in 26 years. He was an Ipswich fan so I took him to the match, I may as well have taken my dining room chair as that would have spoken more than he did.
What a cock he turned out to be.

They do say things run in the family.

Lee Hughes is a c**t end of! I'm in the majoirty with my opinion of him. You'd think he'd keep his head down, get on with his job and not attract attention to himself. Goading fans, berating them and dancing around like that mentally insane bloke in the Walsall end, isn't exactly what you'd expect from someone so gutted that they ENDED someone's life.

With statements like your opening sentence, i'd suggest that you keep your head down and not attract attention to yourself.

If i was Lee Hughes, i'd wear a wig, stop acting like an idiot and maybe more people would take to him a little bit more.

You made a snide remark about Nudga and his Dad. What's that got to do with Luke McCormick? Probably against the rules of this forum too
