Rovers plan busy Pre-Season

According to this article we could end up having 10 pre-season friendlys

DONCASTER Rovers could yet announce up to FIVE more friendlies as Dean Saunders plans a packed pre-season schedule.

Rovers have so far confirmed dates at Grimsby Town (July 17), Bradford Park Avenue (July 21) and Rotherham United (July 24), in addition to home games with Sheffield Wednesday (July 28) and Barnsley (Aug 4).

But the Free Press understands Saunders would like to arrange up to TEN warm-up games in a bid to get his players up to speed for the new League One season.

Saunders hopes to announce more fixtures, likely to be against non-league sides, in the near future.

A proposed clash with Championship side Hull City has fallen through which means Rovers are still looking for a second tier side to face after the game with Barnsley - ahead of their season-opening Carling Cup first round tie on August 14/15.

Rovers’ finalised pre-season programme is also likely to include the club’s now customary friendly against a local Northern Counties East League side, although it is not yet known whether Askern Villa, Armthorpe Welfare or Rossington Main will provide this year’s opposition.

Agreed DKN, nothing wrong with playing more friendlies especially if many are against lower level clubs. Plenty of clubs do it nowadays.

Good idea to have more friendlies,he will get more of an idea watching them in a game than just in training,i hope it's Askern Villa because they've just had their ground vandalised a fair few months ago,and the revenue would help out massively!

Hopefully the games are spresd out. May end up with a few injuries.

I wonder though - could that be his plan? Obviously I don't mean to get players injured, but to get them used to having "ridiculous schedules" like the one on our run in where we played virtually every available match day for about 2 months by having quite a few friendlies together.

Yes I realise that the intensity will be nothing like, but still.

All fine as long as the 1st team squad are played. Totally pointless if the games are looked on as trials for prospective signings or for fringe players to get a run out.
