I'm not sure the Barnes one was from a corner, although you're right with the Beye one. Still, it's been a major issue with us in recent years and hopefully Jones gives us a little more threat in that area.

it was but not the initial ball in - it was when it came out from the defender's header and dropped to him on the edge of the box (I also seem to remember him heading one in from a corner)

I remember good old Shelton Martis scoring a looping header in the 4-3 win over Scunny a few years ago, how Martis has come on since then. Think that was from a corner...

He headed one in from a wide free kick if that's what you're thinking of. :)

Sod hoping for him to score from set pieces,I think it's far more important, his height is used to stop us CONCEDING from set pieces?

Yeah, but a goal here and there, plus an aerial threat would be a bonus.

I just hope he can run back to the box like a giraffe just incase our usual corner effort goes sailing to there keeper!!

With a giraffe neck and go-go gadget Telescopic legs and arms he will be hard to beat,he'll be able to stretch a leg and block a cross when he's on the eighteen yard line!! :boxing:

Now confirmed on DROS. 2 year deal.

Fairly happy with that. Don't think he's great at Championship level, but we need to prepare for this league, and he's always done alright at this level. Plus, he's a leader and he's great in the air - should help to give us some much needed organisation at the back, and for once some height from set plays in both boxes.

Wonder if the two years is to fit with the two year plan? consolidate this year and kick on next maybe?

Well, that's one of the positions we were desperate for... Do we think there will be any other signings today?

Looks like just what we need! Looked on the Wendy forums and everyone is full of praise for the bloke.
Hopefully now we might not get our dinner money nicked every week!
        Onwards and upwards!

Which ever...

http://www.doncasterroversfc.co.uk/news/article/rob-jones-interview-281352.aspx?pageValue=1

Updated interview with Jones, says on Page 2:

"I had a really good time in Scotland, we finished in the top six, I scored the opening goal in our League Cup win, but more importantly I forged a great partnership with Shelton, so it will be nice to be re-united with him."

... I fear he will be disappointed very early

Wendy fan at work reckons Jones will be a decent signing for us and certainly give us a threat on corners but does warn that he's ludicrously slow so we need to plan for that when he plays.

Overall a positive signing but another cautionary note was that he is quite injury-prone.

Now we know why he's excited to be re-united with Shelton.  :coat:

Not sure that your source is right. Looks unlikely we'll sign 2 players today.

Maybe it was Smith and Hawley and it just hasn't been announced yet?

i hope he isn't going to talk to Martis too much otherwise that will mean he's sat on the next treatment table ,seriously though if the big fella could be got fit we would have a right partnership at that level :scarf:
