 You're right with Fleetwood.

Im probably not being fair with friendlies bearing in mind your age, but we played Stoke in a friendly in 1972    The team that is the longest in any sort of game is Blackburn who I think from memory was League Cup in 1969. I live in hope we can play them again next season though  :)

Thanks again for helping me pass the night in a boring night shift at work  ;)

I did find the Blackburn game in 1969, we lost 4-2,

I have just pulled out the 'bible' (or more commonly known as Donny the Official History of Doncaster Rovers by Tony Bluff and Barry Watson and been scouring the friendlies section and planned to modify before you noticed  .

Can't win em all...

You have the best Rovers book ever written there................until I finish writing mine, that is. I'm currently in the middle of one detailing all the Rovers programmes ever produced in conjunction with all the matches ever played. Labour of love, if I ever get it finished ;)

I do own a vast collection of football books and old magazines if I say so myself, including one by the FA listing every single registered player since the FA's formation and includes clubs they played for and other stats which is very useful. Rovers wise the only way is up is a great way of reliving the 98/99 season even if it is in the eyes of Ian McMahon. I also have many copies of the likes of Shoot from the 70's and 80's which I spend hours reading.

I always believe I was born 20 years too late.

Apart from one or two single sheet friendlies, I've got every Rovers programme going back to the 1955-56 season but it's getting bloody expensive now lol.  I agree about the nostalgia thing, I think it's fascinating reading about football history.

See I've never been one for programmes, I collected them when I was younger but after missing a couple to complete a season set I just gave up, I buy the odd one but I don't think they are worth it anymore.

I have every home programme between 1980-1990 and then between 2003-11. I still like to sit down and read them every now and then. Usually have a stack next to the toilet. Passses the time whilst I am sat there.

I went to the Stoke City friendly at BV when I was a kid, and when they were still an old powerhouse D1 team -- it drew a decent crowd of 6,214 on July 29, 1972 and we lost 2-1 with Kitch scoring for us and I think the late and great Big John Ritchie scored for them. I was also at the Blackburn Rovers LC tie in September, 1969 when we lost 4-2 in front of 10,024 at Ewood Park. A great thread and some fine memories. I recall many years ago before teams started building new stadiums and before regular promotion from the Conference into the FL, the only ground the Rovers had never played at was Stamford Bridge.

Fulham

We played Fulham in the League Cup 83/4 season

05.10.1983   r2-1   Fulham   home   L1-3
26.10.1983   r2-2   Fulham   away   L1-3   (2-6)

I remember Paul Parker playing Right Back for them down at Belle Vue .

Didn't Dougie give us the lead in the first leg at home against Fulham?

I was there when we beat Aldershot 7-0  now there was one or two dodgy comments about that result considering what was needed ( i didn't know at the time being a young whippersnapper and all that)
oh and when we did Werder Bremen about the same time

Yes, we played Fulham several times in the league in the 80s and 90s. I remember seeing us at Craven Cottage one night game when we lost 3-1. I think that was 1982, year after we got promoted

I'm jealous about seeing us at Ewood Park, thats just before I started going to games, so thats a ground Im missing with Rovers. Ive currently seen Rovers at 192 different grounds and I should be able to get to another 4 new ones this season at Colchester, MK Dons, Shrewsbury and Crawley.

If you're after the programmes for the disastrous 97-98 relegation season, I've got them all up for sale on e-bay at the moment starting at 49p each lol. User name krisiandonny, shameless plug sorry ;-)
