Its only on 6 months loan at the moment but it does free up some considerable funds for his replacement.

allows us to keep him but not pay him (or at least fully) for a while and I wonder if things are going well, will the board push the boat out a little to hang onto him if/when he's back at the end of the deal?

can't see it like and wouldn't expect it of them either

Although, as you say S_M, it's only 6 months on loan, it's probably the end of his DRFC career. One of the most gifted players i've ever seen at the club

Plus if he's out of contract at end of the season they can snap him up for a reduced fee

Sad, sad day. I feel worse that Copps has left us, albeit on loan, than any other player. He is one of us after all.

Why is it 6 months? What happens then? The transfer window will be closed so only an extended loan will be possible. Or am I missing something?

I don't envy Dean on his way to yeovil and trying to bring another player(s) in.

If we get the bodies in that has always been suggested we would as his replacements then we can't argue with the deal - good for both parties and if DS can get replacements in as good as the rest of his summer signings then we'll be a real force at this level.

Still, hard not to feel like its really the end of an era given the length of his service and the joy he was to watch.

It is a shame, but we have to face the facts. We're in League One, and Coppinger is, by all accounts, on Championship money.

Plus, we have a paper-thin squad and can barely fill the bench most weeks. No matter how gutting it is to lose Copps, nobody can argue with the logic of losing him in favour of bringing in two or three others to actually give the squad some depth.

If he was on say 4/5k a week which is approx 240k a year should be able to give us more leeway to getting players in
