This is actually a new situation. JR usually sacks them and then has someone at least in mind. We have not lost a manager since 98 without JR pulling the trigger. Bet the old goat has one up his sleeve though.

SO'D won't be coming back here, both parties have moved on.

Can't help thinking it would've been best for Wolves, SO'D and Rovers if they'd just appointed him. We really need continuity. Saunders is doing a great job this season, couldn't blame him for having his head turned by a big club but at the same time I don't think it would be a bad decision on his part to see this job through and get a promotion on his CV. Even his harshest critics have to admit he has done exceptionally well to put this team together in difficult circumstances, it would be a shame not to see that through.

I can't say I expect it to work out for Saunders at Wolves (if he goes). It might, but I don't think he'll be a popular choice among their supporters, and we all saw how Solbakken got hounded out when the supporters turned on him.

I'm just praying for a stumbling block. We can do without this upheaval.

Personally I'd look at this squad:

Think about all the successful managers already: Clarke, Di Matteo, Gullit, Wise, Hughes, Vialli and Zola; and ask if any of the others are clever enough to do it themselves?

Obviously I'd look at O'Driscoll but I think we need to hit the ground running, and he didn't do that last time, so we'd throw away a healthy position, even if we'd be great longer-term. Don't think Ryan would appoint Penney again.

Perhaps Rob Jones could be given a go if we can hold on to Flynn or Carey too? Just to try to maintain momentum. Also like the idea of a former Rover, perhaps Snodin, or Steve Nicol, or Richie Barker is doing ok at Crawley?

Would be gutted to see DS leave, of course.

I'm hoping to christ SOD gets the Wolves job, not only for him, but for us. Saunders has done a terrific  job with limited resources and will be hard to replace.

But if we need to replace him I'd go for Justin Edinburgh from Newport County. Took them from relegation fodder to promotion candidates, young and hungry and likely to have decent contacts in the game after playing at a good level. Either him or Phil Parkinson from Bradford City. Took Colchester up on a shoestring budget.
