What would people think if we just moved Flynn to manager full time? Experienced knows the club very well, ex player, respected manager, experienced, steady ship too?

We could do a lot worse IMO.

I think Flynn will get the job. Swansea and Wales fans who I have spoken to can't speak highly enough of him.

Let's see how they do on Saturday before we start with this! Jones is a great player and a leader but that doesn't necessarily translate to good coaching ability. I'm sure Flynn will be considered if we do well at Stevenage mind.

Shows how far we've come that we have someone of his calibre hanging around the backroom. Whatever happens, I hope he still features under whatever management we eventually get.

Rob Jones... the best club captain you could wish for, not sure about management abilities, certainly not yet.

So a new manager gets a year or so to prove himself but Brian Flynn one game?
Great interim appointment imo, we could do a lot worse.
Buys the board time to get the right man once again.

I wonder if he might get a little longer? DROS now says:

'The club will be looking at all applications and then will form a shortlist for interview within the next two weeks'

This seems a slightly slower timeframe than SM was suggesting last night - maybe Brian Flynn is on that list and is keen enough to encourage some continuity? Would be fine by me.

Brian Flynn is respected immensely by some of those who have played under him. Particularly at international level.

I think we had a target, but have been overwhelmed by the number and quality of applicants, so it's now going to take longer

If we were mid-table then definately I would say give Flynn/Jones/either of them a go, but as we are joint top aiming for promotion I would like someone who with a bit more experience than either of them has at present.

It does highlight to me another failing of not having a reserve team though - there is no-one gaining experience coming through the club, as Penney did.

Sorry yes, should have qualified that as recent experience - and achievement. Flynn hasn't managed a league club in nearly 10 years, thats a long time to be out of the game - and why?

We'll have that Bale kid.

To be fair, I'd prefer him to Lomas or Butcher looking at their records.

Always used to make me laugh when Flynn captained the side and the mascot was taller than him.

We might just about be able to afford a reserve team if we were happy to have a conference or L2 first team.

Maybe there's a clue in the statement about a shortlist within two weeks - wouldn't give the new manager much time to bring in any players would it...? hmmmm... short...list.

After JR telling Wolves he wanted the matter done and dusted within a few days as well, maybe we aren't looking at all until the end of the season.

I'm off to Skybet straight after this.

He's a viable option, a class act that has been part of the "successs" of our team over the first half of the team.

I believe continuity is the vital aspect, particularly as we are in the mix at the point in the season.

I have no problems with him staying, if he isnt the right person longterm isnt it worth taking our time to get that right person in.

For what its worth I am not keen on Lomas or Dickov, what promise have they shown?

I was speaking with Dick Watson last night, and Dick did say that they are keen to get the right appointment and interviews could be as late as the week after next.  Just sit tight, lads and lasses.

Flynn is now sitting at 33-1 with SkyBet which I can't understand.

Could be a nice little earner...
